Reflections for Police Officer Thomas T. Wood

While I had only met Tom once, (and I think he was resting on the couch at the restaurant where you had your Dad's birthday party and because he had just worked all night), I have spent alot of time reading all of the wonderful things about him. I can tell that this is going to be an incredible loss to so many people whose lives he had touched. Helene, you have always been such a vibrant happy person and I know that this is so hard on you. Please know that I am praying for you and your children all the time and know that you are such a strong person and wonderful mother and that is why Tom had chosen you to be his wife.

WHEN I FIRST GOT TO MAYWWOD EVERYONE WAS EXTEREMLY FRIENDLY ESPECIALLY TOM. I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH TOM AND ON ONE OCCASION WE GOT INTO A FOOT CHASE AND TOM CAUGHT THE GUY AND BEGAN BUSTIN MY CHOPPS ABOUT ME RUNNING SLOW. HE SAID "MAN I THOUGHT I WAS RUNNING BY MYSELF". TOM IS BEING MISSED AND I KNOW HE IS IN A BETTER PLACE. I HOPE THAT THIS LITTLE STORY COULD PUT A SMILE ON YOU FACE MS WOOD.

I attended Proviso East a few years back and I was saddened to hear that Officer Wood passed away in the line of duty. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and hope that time will ease your sorrow. It is stories like these that make me more determined to become a police officer myself and help officers like Thomas Wood.

Warrior's Epitaph
When it comes my time to go,
I hope with fervent zeal,
That my merits have been proved
On life's battlefield
Enough to earn for me
One small place of rest,
Just over the other side,
Beyond the reach of death.

It still bothers me that Officer Wood is gone. I can still picture him in the cafeteria, or I expect to see him walking in the hallway. I feel very sad for his family; my prayers go out to all of them.

To the Family and Friends,

My hearts go out to you all, as you struggle with the loss of a wonderful man. I know all to well what you all must be feeling right now, as I lost my brother 8 months ago...a police officer killed in the line of duty. Just like my brother and all Peace Officers that have died, Police Officer Thomas Wood memory will live on forever. We will remember what he died doing....protecting your community. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

God Bless,
Jonika

Officer Wood died a hero, his remaining co-workers must continue to live as heroes. I have prayed everyday since Wood's death that God will pour out his blessing and overwhelm the Maywood Police officers with his peace. Gods peace, the kind that mends a broken heart. I miss the officers that I worked with in Maywood. You are a very special group that I will always respect and hold dear to my heart. May God continue to hold you all in the palm of his hand. God Bless

First of all: THANK YOU - I find myself returning to this page on a regular basis, usually before I retire for the night. I credit all of your beautiful comments to a good nights rest. There are some that make me sad and others that get me laughing out loud (lol Diaz). We get through the tough times by recalling all the great memories, even if its just remembering all the nick names Tom was given - Tommy Boy, Tom Cruise, Agent 227, Officer Friendly, white brother from another mother..it was endless. We can't forget when Tom was in pursuit with Sam's or Curry - always trying to outrun em' - but before they knew it, Tom's big ole head got too far in front of him and his feet didn't catch up - down he went - and as fast as he went down, he'd pop right back up with some karate roll like he "meant" to do that. The stories are endless and it always ends up with a smile. We're one BIG family and it comforts me to know how much everyone cares, I'm certain there will be a day when I'll be able to extend my sympathies with a big ole hug to all of the survivors who've lost a loved one. Until then, god bless and live everyday as if it were your last.

Love and Hugs to you all.

I was with my FTO on a retail theft call on a summer afternoon and the call came out that the offender fled southbound on 19th over the tracks into Maywood. You came over to where I was and asked for a further description of the subject. This was my first encounter with you and it was the only one I had. I had no idea who you were and I am sure you had no idea who I was. That does not matter to me one bit two guys working next to each other with different departments. Just you coming over to our side to inquire about that subject showed me the dedication you had to the job. I won't forget it or the many stories I've heard about you. May you rest in peace brother, you are our eyes in the sky now look down on us with a bright ray of light and support!

Words cannot express how sorry I am for your family's loss. From reading all the reflections, you are not just a hero in uniform, but a hero all around. It is hard to imagine my family going through what your family must be going through. Anyone brave enough to put on that badge and do the job is a treasure to our country. Your sacrafice will never go unnoticed. Rest in peace, my friend.

To the friends and family of officer Wood:

Your family, friends and co-workers are in my thoughts and prayers as I suffer from the loss of one of my own brother officers. Like Jeff, your killing was a senseless one. May God bring comfort to your family and swift justice to the cowardly SOB who took your life. Rest in peace.
