Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Thomas T. Wood

Officer Wood:

We did not know each other and our paths never crossed, although one day we will meet.

Within a few days I will participate in a bicycle ride wearing a bracelet bearing your name as part of the Police Unity Tour. Although the Tour raises funds for the National Law Enforcement Memorial, it is more importantly engaged in the recognition of your sacrifice and to not forget what you have given to your brothers and sisters.

I will do my best to honor your memory in this ride.

Rest in peace.

It is with a heavy heart that I leave this message for you. You were one of the first people to welcome me aboard when I arrived from Oregon. You were so persistent in helping me to use Outlook. You even printed instructions on your own time just to help me out. I wish I could have gotten to know you better. You were a real asset to our department and are sorely missed. WE (your brothers and sisters at the Maywood Police Department) will not rest until your murderer is brought to justice. Gone....but not forgotten, brother by another mother (smile.)

Your reflections still touch my heart each night I read them, please visit our family memorial site for Tommy. I have some information regarding the ODMP t-shirts that honor the fallen officers of 2006. Tom's name will be included on them so I'll be ordering some for National Police week.

Love you all

Everyday before I go on duty I say this little prayer, "Lord grant that each day you will let me triumph over those whose acts are cruel and wrong. Protect my every move, bless me everyday, bless my family while I'm gone." May Tom now be protecting the streets in heaven. Bless his wife and family.

Hey Babe,
Happy Birthday..forever you'll be in my heart although its obvious I wish you were here. We'll be at KamPai celebrating as usual and singing some love songs at Side Kicks later on. Birthdays will never be the same for me without you but the change will be accepted and welcomed knowing your here in spirit. I love you so much and miss you even more, like we always said, "Love ya more than yesterday but less than tomorrow"...even though we always knew at some point there would be no tomorrow, we always had faith we would be reunited and I will be looking forward to that meeting.

Love and Hugs Sweety...

Hey Tommy Boy!!!
Going home for your birthday to celebrate....Happy Birthday To You!! It breaks my heart knowing how much you are missed.....Lesson Learned: Don't walk through life taking advantage of today, today is a gift which is why we call it the "Present"...Live in the moment and treasure those we love every single day especially when we feel annoyed....Accept the fact that people love us the only way they know how.....You were really awesome on that end of love!! Your Birthday was always special and we shall honor you well!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR TOMMY...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! L.Y.M.I.!!!

Tommy, I know I didn't get to spend much time with you, instead I did more fighting than I did spending with you, I know you were always trying to get through to me and explain things to me, you went out of your way to sit me down, and explain the rights and wrongs in life, and it would go through one ear and out the other.... I miss you for everyday that goes by. I love you more than ever, you will always be in my heart no matter what. I wish every night before I go to sleep that Maywood PD will catch the bastard who took your life away, who took a loving father, brother , son , and a husband away from our family... May you rest in peace, you've done your duties, you've achieved your goal of having a loveable family, wife, kids, and made the streets 10x better! I LOVE YOU and I will see you on your birthday buddy!

Hey Uncle Tom. I am just writing to you again just to say hi. Well our parties were alot of fun, but without you there to play a prank on my mom....that was no fun. Well anyways I wanna say hi to Aunt Dee so.....HI AUNT DEE!!! Ok well i am doing a reading thing for school about you and some other things but i thought you were the #1 thing on my list. I was always so amazed how you had the courage to go out and face the world, risk your life for other people, risk your life for your family, and most of all risk your life to save people from doing horrible things like drugs, alchohal, and all those horrible things. I will never have the courage to do those things, but i will try to help people when they need it. you have inspired me to do more of that. Well i ahve to go now BYE!!!

TOM,

WHEN I FIRST HEARD THE AWFUL NEWS TEARS JUST FELL OUT OF MY EYES. I COULDNT BELIEVE WHAT I WAS HEARING AND I COULDNT BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO YOU!!! YOU WERE A GREAT MAN. I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE TALKS AND LAUGHS WE HAD. I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ADVISE YOU GAVE ME AND HEALING YOU BROUGHT TO MY HEART. I'M JUST SO UPSET BECAUSE I FEEL ITS SO UNFAIR THAT GOOD PEOPLE HAVE TO BE TAKEN FROM US AND I'M ALSO UPSET AT THE FACT THAT THIS PERSON WHO DID THIS TO YOU IS STILL ROAMING FREE. I KNOW YOUR AT PEACE AND WITH GOD BUT I WONT BE HAPPY UNTIL THE PERSON WHO DID THIS TO YOU IS CONVICTED. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED AND I HOPE THAT YOUR LOOKING DOWN UPON THOSE WHO CARE FOR YOU AND WATCHING OVER US. REST IN PEACE!!!!! MY PRAYERS GO TO YOUR FAMILY AND MOST OF ALL YOUR CHILDREN.

Tommy,

It's already three months since this horrible tradgedy took you away. i know you are at peace with God, but Healing of Broken Hearts is very slow. We do have memories to carry on. What really frustrates me is that everything is being hushed. I pray that the heartless, coward persons who committed this senseless crime for whatever reason is judged by God.

Love you Tom, May you rest in peace, and continue to watch over those heartless, cowards in this world

"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou

Aloha Police Officer Thomas T. Wood,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the "ODMP Light". That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute.

People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer.

Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP serves as a place where that continuum of "LIGHT" can be seen through and within, the heart and soul of each and every person who honors our fallen heroes with a relection and/or tribute. As we say in Hawaii, "We are `Ohana. We are family".

May God comfort the family and loved ones who have lost their beloved Thomas. May God also comfort those who have lost a fellow officer and friend that can never be replaced in this lifetime.

I wish you peace and love beyond all understanding.
May you rest in peace Police Officer Thomas T. Wood.
Me Ke Aloha Pumehana. Amen.

**I pray all find comfort in this Hawaiian prayer I leave you.**

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

Tommy, you are always in my Prayers. As I read this hymn
about Stephen, first of
Christian martyrs I had no other choice but to think
of you, as I always think that you died a martyrs Death.
So I will share this with family and friends:

WhenStephen, full of power and grace,
Went forth throughout the land,
He bore no shield before his face,
No weapon in his hand;
But only in his heart a flame
And on his lips a sword
Wherewith he smote and overcame
The foremmen of the Lord.

When Stephen preached against the laws
And by those laws was tried,
He had no friend to plead his cause,
No spokesman at his side;
But only inhis heart a flame
And in his eyes a light
Wherewith Gog's daybreak to proclaim
And rend the veils of night.

When Stephen, young and doomed to die,
Fell crushed beneath the stones,
He had no curse nor vengeful cry
For those who broke his bones;
But only in his heart a flame
And on his lips a prayer
That God, in sweet forgiveness'name,
Should understand and spare.
