Reflections for Police Officer II Landon Michael Dorris

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Dorris, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Dorris, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Dorris' life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Dorris' life was about so much more than the way he died. Dorris will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Dorris, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost four years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Landon,

When I heard what happened to you, what I remembered most of all, were the conversations we had when we went on patrol together. I remeber once we had pretty tuff day. You told me that you could take a million tuff days because of how deeply you loved your fiance and sons and how you couldn't wait to see them after we would get off work. You said, that's all that matters, and that nothing can bring you down because of them.

Every one of us loves their family. The day you said that to me with such a profound and deep passion in your voice, It made me pause and thank God once more for my own wife and new baby.

I'll never forget that about you. That day, you made me become a better husband and new father. Just by the way you said it.

You told me you wanted to be one of the few who are LAPD Officers and Marines and to actually go into combat and fight for your country. I told you you were crazy, and that you are an LAPD Officer and have nothing more to prove to anyone about you dedication to this country. You said you loved this country and wanted to help out and didn't want those guys to do it alone.

That's a fact I'm sure nobody else knew about. It reflects your character. I respect you so much more for that because I knew you would have followed through. The only reason I could convice you not to join or delay, was to remind you about your love for your family. The fact that you actually tried to sign up is enough to for me to remember you as having been a Marine.

Landon, I miss you brother. You set the example, not just the way you wore your uniform, but the way you loved us all and your dedication to justice. It was underlying in every moment I spent with you and every word you said. It was always there, a tuff guy with a calm voice.

I'm glad I said goodbye to you before I transfered. It was a privelege to shake the hand of a real man, father, cop, but most of all a hero.

God bless Landon.

I truly work with heroes! Every single one of you put on the uniform like I do and risk life and limb to get the job done. Police Officer Landon Dorris did just that. I know his family and friends are proud of this brave warrior who dawned the uniform and fought the battle, and made the ultimate sacrifice. I know I’m proud of him. Landon, you have done your job and done it well, rests now, were clear and ready to buy your calls.

I went to high school with Landon, and he was the nicest guy even then, never said anything bad about anyone and was the first to step up if someone was being picked on. It sounds like that was the kind of officer he was also. He will be greatly missed. He had a really good sense of humor always fun to be around. I am sorry this had to happen to such a great guy.

As an ordinary citizen of Los Angeles with no special place, fame or significance I wish to thank the family of this brave officer and all who have gone before him and will come after, who served me day in and day out throughout their careers without even knowing my name and who also watched over me as I slept and guarded me as I went about my daily life. The gratitude I have for you and all your fellow officers is immeasurable and I want you all to know that I am praying for you and your safety. So, when you see me smile and wave as you pass know that your sacrifices on my behalf and that of my family and friends is being acknowledged and will never be forgotten. God bless you and keep you.
