Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Victor Reynolds

Rest in peace, my brother

I was a telecommunicator at Morehead City PD when Jeremy worked there and his wife was also a telecommunicator. It was a previledge to have known him, worked with him and to be his friend. There was always a smile on his face and he could make you forget you were having a bad day. Jeremy never had anything negative to say about anyone, always finding the good in others. He truly loved being a police officer and went the extra mile to help those he came in contact with. My heart goes out to Jackie and Jared and Jeremy's parents and family. May God give you comfort and may your memories make you smile. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Jeremy,
I'll never forget the short time I had the honor of working with you. You had a way of talking to people and making them feel relaxed and willing to talk to you, that kind of quality is hard to find in law enforcement today. You touched a lot of lives while working in North Carolina and I'm sure while working in Tennessee. Now its time for you to go rest in peace and let us carry on the job we all have taken the oath to do......... REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

My thoughts and prayers to the family of Deputy Reynolds. Rest ....

October 22, 2006

To the family and friends of Deputy Jeremy Reynolds and to his fellow officers of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office:

I was so saddened to learn of the tragic death of this young dedicated officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Deputy Reynolds was tragically killed in the line of duty.

May you be comforted and supported by the warm embrace of your law enforcement family, and by other police survivors who share your painful journey.

My heart goes out to this young family. In reading the reflections about Jeremy, it is obvious that he profoundly touched the lives of many people and that he was an amazing husband, father, family member, friend and peer. That is a wonderful legacy to leave to all those who cared for him.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Sheriff Reynolds gave to his community and the citizens of Tennessee and North Carolina, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 20, 2006.

My thoughts and condolences go out to Jackie and Jared, the Reynolds family, and the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. If you knew Jeremy you were blessed to know a kind and compassionate human being. Jeremy never did anything half way, it was all or nothing.

I enjoyed working with him at the Carteret County Sheriff's Office. As his sergeant, I couldn't have asked for a better and thorough deputy to work with. When it came to computers, he was the man to call. Jeremy knew how to calm a child's worst fear, an abused spouse's emotional hurt, or an officer who got overly excited on a call. Jeremy earned the nickname "Dr. Phil" from his fellow shift deputies.

Jeremy had the sense of humor that would keep you in stitches. I got into his patrol car one night for him to give me a ride to pick up mine. The glove box fell opened when I hit it with my knee and 10 boxes of Imodium AD fell out onto the floor. I told him he either had stock in it or was full of it. Jeremy said, "I don't have stock in it if that's what your asking"!! I have never seen anyway who was as quick on their feet as he was with a comeback for everything.

Jeremy always had a smile on his face and was willing to help with anything. Jeremy loved law enforcement and he loved serving the citizens he was sworn to protect whether it was in North Carolina or Tennessee.

Jeremy, it was an honor and a pleasure to serve with you. I thank you for allowing me to be a part of your's and your family's life. I thank you for the ultimate sacrifice you gave to the citizens of Tennessee and North Carolina. You have earned the right to go rest high on the mountain. We'll take it from here buddy

Law Enforcement 23rd Psalm:

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done my son...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

what a tragedy we have lost another hero. I come here every morning in hopes there won't be another officer down. There are just too many that have been taken from us. We feel your sorrow and saddness and our prayers and deepest sympathies are sent from our hearts to yours. You will be in our prayers the family, loved ones, friends, and those that wear the badge of law enforcement.
"A Letter From Heaven"
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just enternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and he said,'I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.'
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....In the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human they are bound to bring tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you would not understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you to;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented...that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low:
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.
I will always be with you!
God Bless You All
