Hey cuz, reunion is coming up. It'll never be the same.I like to think we all appreciate the little bit of time together even more. Life is short, lesson painfully learned. I know we didn't see each other often but I always looked forward to seeing you and your family. Guess I should've told you that before. Mom and I think of you often. Hope Bridget brings the kids to Chris and Melindas. Would like our kids to play together. Still miss ya, GO BUCKS!!

Hey Bigfoot, You've been gone over a thousand days now and I just wanted to say I love you a thousand and ten days more than I did on 9/28/06. Our family reunion will be in a couple of weeks and wanted you to know that you'll be with us in spirit. Maybe you and mom and dad, Adam and Uncle Chuck will be doing the same on the other side. I miss you, sweety! Love, Aunt Linda PS(Be a good boy)

Josh,

I attended the Alan Jackson concert with my wife and family at the Schottenstein Center located near the Ohio State University Campus area about 2 months ago. It was a great concert especially with the likes of James Otto and Trace Adkins performing in addition to Alan Jackson. When Alan Jackson took the stage, he played many wonderful songs including one in particular that sent chills up my spine and made the hair on the back of my neck stick up. That song was "Remember When" which was also the same song I remember shedding a tear to at your funeral service approximately 2 years and 3 months ago. I remember being seated inside a school gymnasium on bleachers surrounded by law enforcement officers from all across the country. Two agencies that quickly come to mind were the California Highway Patrol and San Diego P.D. who made the trip to pay their respects to two fellow brother law enforcement officers 2,500 to 3,000 miles away. These officers and the hundreds that attended the service did not know you personally but were there to honor, pay tribute, and get to know who Troopers Josh Risner and Dale Holcomb were. The service was very moving and emotional. Partly because of the overwhelming support that was displayed by all those in attendance. We all share the same morals, values, and beliefs and because of this, there is a bond that brings us together in the face of a tragedy. We stand for what is right to combat what is wrong and are willing to place ourselves at great personal risk to achieve these goals. That is what brother and sisterhood is. There is no question in my mind that there wasn't one law enforcement officer there at the service that wouldn't have risked their own life to change the course of that fateful day if they could have to prevent you and Dale from departing this Earth prematurely. But God has a plan for each and every one of us and even though we don't understand why, one thing is for certain. Everytime something bad happens such as the death of two brave men, something good can also come out of it. For example, the outpouring of support from family and friends for those who are left behind. I know I personally will make it my life's calling to be there for Josh's sister Jodie and her husband Cory who I work with on 4 Precinct B Company. Rest assured Josh that I will always be there for them for friendship and support as I consider them to be an extension of my family. There is no doubt in my mind Josh that you are in a place we cannot even possibly fathom with our Lord God in Heaven. Just as you did on Earth Josh, please watch over all of us as we stand up and watch over those who cannot defend themselves. In my mind, you guys are martyrs for the law enforcement profession and I am very proud to be a part of this family of brave men and women. I will always "Remember When" and will NEVER forget you Josh. Rest in peace brother, we'll take it from here.

My heart still aches for this tragedy after the years have passed; and leaving small kids behind. I know that you were doing what you had pledged to do to serve the public in an honorable way. And as you were helping a fellow Trooper with his family emergency, it touches my heart deeply knowing you had the compassion and sincerity to help. I pray for your kids that they grow up knowing their daddy was a hero. You have left an impression on many people's hearts and souls. Thank you for your dedication to a job whose goal is to protect people. God Bless!

Josh,

It is hard to believe that almost 2 years have went by since that day that you were called to heaven. So much has happened in our lives. Bet you cant believe how much the kids have grown. As you know Peyton has started football. He has your old number. He is so proud to wear it. He misses you so much. He came home bummed out one night and wanted to quit because you were not here to coach. I offered to get out there and coach and he just laughed and decided that he would continue to play and he decided that I was best on the bleachers just watching. As you also know Paige hasnt changed her attitude a whole lot. She continues to push all my buttons and everyone elses for that matter just to see how far she can get. She misses you as well. She is always talking about the things she remembers about you. I continue to miss you each and every day. It seems my heart continues to ache just as much as it did on that very first day. I love you and miss you every day. I still expect you to walk through the door each morning. I hope you and Dale are having a great time in heaven. Please keep watching over us each day. I look forward to seeing you again some day. I miss you and I love you with my whole heart!

We love you!

Wow,almost two years. Also another birthday.I'm almost the same age as you.Not the way I planned things!I haven't left anything on here for awhile but you now as well as I do that I think about you all the time.Things around here could be better but they could also be worse.I want you to know that I miss you so much and the way things used to be even though it meant us bickering. They say you have to find your new normal but it's so hard to do when no one else wants to jump on board. There is alot else I'd like to say but I'm not one to air my dirty laundry.I've thought about starting a journal to you.I should do that.Continue to watch over us who need it and keep the rest in line.
