I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Sheriff Daniels, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Christopher, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Christopher's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Christopher's life was about so much more than the way he died. Christopher will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Sheriff Daniels, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost four years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Chris,
You did so much for the men and women of Lake County Sheriff's Department. You were not just a Sheriff but a friend. You truly cared about your employees and you went out of the way to show it.
You may now rest in peace and enjoy being at home with God.

You were such a great man. One of the nicest people I've ever met. You did so much for our department. I'll never forget this years volunteer banquet. You crossed out all of our last names and wrote our first names on our awards. You couldn't always remember everyone's names but you tried. Thank you for all that you've done. You will be missed.

I waited to post here until I knew just what I wanted to say. But I am here now and I am still at a loss for words. Sheriff Daniels was my boss and he really was one of the good ones. He made us hold our heads up with integrity. He always had a smile and kind words when he seen you, whether it was on the elevator, walking in the halls, when he popped in to your office, or on the streets. There are really good officers and really good Sheriff's, but he was special, because he made all of us feel special. I know that I feel blessed to have been some part of his world. Thank you Sheriff Daniels for being who you were. Thank you Lord for giving him to us if even for a short time.

Thank you for everything you have done, with any hope it will never be forgotten. One day I hope you will look down upon us and be proud of what we will accomplish, with your light to guide us.

The future will be brighter thanks to you, and you will be missed, although I only met you twice, I took a lot from that.

May you be the light that guides us into a safe tomorrow.

Rest in Peace, brother, although your watch is over, ours is just beginning.

WHEN GOD MADE POLICE OFFICERS

When the Lord was creating police officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one."

And the Lord said, "Have you read the spec on this order?
A peace officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform.
"He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day."He has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands."

The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands... no way."

"It's not the hands that are causing me problems," said the Lord, "it's the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have."

"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, "May I see what's in there, sir?" (When he already knows and wishes he'd taken that accounting job.) "Another pair here in the side of his head for his partners' safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, 'You'll be all right ma'am, when he knows it isn't so."

"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow."

"I can't," said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on a civil service paycheck."

The angel circled the model of the peace officer very slowly, "Can it think?" she asked.

"You bet," said the Lord. "It can tell you the elements of a hundred crimes; recite Miranda warnings in its sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of the stop... and still it keeps its sense of humor. This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crime scenes painted in hell, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim's family, and then read in the daily paper how law enforcement isn't sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects."

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the peace officer. "There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model."

"That's not a leak," said the lord, "it's a tear."

"What's the tear for?" asked the angel.

"It's for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American flag, for justice."

"You're a genius," said the angel.

The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there," he said.

michelle,
I hope you know that you do not grieve alone. Our entire county is suffering with the loss of Chris.
I have known Chris for several years. He coached my son's baseball team. He was so much to so many. He had so many different roles he played in life.He was a Sheriff, friend, coach, mentor and so much more, but none of those things were as important as husband and father.
For as long as i have known Chris he had power and authority but you would never know it. He was a down to earth guy who really cared about everyone he met.
Our county has come a long way and that is because of Chris.I am glad that he was "living his dream" as Lindsay said because he earned and deserved it.
I will never forget stopping by the booth at the fair when he was running for Sheriff.I told him he "will" make a great Sheriff and he looked at me and said "I think you have more faith in me than i do myself" and i looked at him and said "you know no one desrves it more than you". Looking back i am so happy i got that chance to let him know how well thought of he was with my family.
Another thing i wanted to mention was that after Chris was elected i sent an email to him and the next day i received an email back thanking me for well wishes.I could not beleive it for 2 reasons,1-you would think he would be so busy and 2- he signed it "Chris". he never thought of himself as being better than anyone, he was always just "Chris".
I will pray for you and your family and please know we will never forget!

Sheriff Daniels, I wanted soo badly to meet YOU , maybe to play golf or just to hang out and possibly to read the thoughts of one that is soo greatly respected in the Lake County community. My brother works for you, I know his heart is broken. I don't know why some one that has soo much to offer was taken from us in this life, but I have to realize that what you built, will only grow stronger. Sorry you had to leave us so soon boss. Your accessibility and approachablity were certainly a breath of fresh air. Words can't begin to express the sense of loss we have sustained. You were a true visionary. I'm proud that I was able to serve under your command, as fleeting as it was. God speed Sheriff.

Michelle, Chris Jr., Ashley, Lindsay, Taylor and Shirley,
Chris always made sure that he was right there ready to help our family in any way he could. Thrown into the worst tragedy any agency could have, Chris stood strong. His honor, dignity and humility in the job he had taken on, shined thru when he became Sheriff for Lake County. His character was seen every day to not only our family but also to the family that is our sheriff?s office and our community as a whole.
Last Sunday the day after your nightmare started you showed your strength by coming to the college and being with your LCSO family. And now the day after you have buried your husband I look back and again see your strength you showed at the funeral. I know Chris is smiling down from Heaven and is so proud of his two babies and in you. In speaking at daddy?s funeral we see the honor and dignity that Chris has left behind in his children and in you. We still have a piece of him here with us just looking at you and his beautiful children.
After Wayne?s passing, a poem came to our house that was written by a 12 years old girl. This poem touched my heart so I want to share it with you.
A heart of gold stopped beating,
Two shining eyes at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove,
He only takes the best,
God knows you had to leave us,
But you did not go alone,
For a part of us went with you,
The day he took you home,
To some you might be forgotten,
To others a part of the past,
But to those of us who loved and lost you,
The memory will forever last.
The next months and years will be trying ones for you. Keep trusting in God and he will see you thru. Our family is standing by if you need a shoulder to cry on, and ear to lend, or just not to be alone. Chris stood by us and now we will stand by you. If you want to contact out family Chaplin Bob and Linda Green have our numbers so please do not hesitate.
May God bless you and know you are in our prayers.

I was at the event when this happened. Shock, disbelief and sadness cannot describe the emotions shared by those of us who responded. I had only met Sheriff Daniels in passing, but I have witnessed his caring ways when he lost a deputy to gunfire in the past couple of years.

I know his heart was in this event, as were those of all the participants. His contributions to his community and all of the residents of Lake County will certainly be missed.

May God greet you and keep you in comfort as you certainly have earned a place in heaven.

" Can you take your stuff off, Daddy?
She asks me with a smile
Take your stuff off Daddy
Come play with me a while
She misses me when I'm working
Cuddles me when I'm home
As long as my angel loves me
I will never be alone
I put on all my "Daddy stuff"
And head out to the streets
I do my sworn duty
But it's for her that my heart beats
I leave here each day wondering
Will I get to come back home
And will my "stuff" protect me
From the dangers and unknown
The things I call my duty gear
She calls my "Daddy stuff"
My radio, my gun, my mace,
And we can't forget my cuffs
I'm like a super hero
I chase "bad guys" all shift long
Never a break for Daddy!
Disagree? She'll say you're wrong
Her daddy rescues puppies
I'm like a super hero slueth
I just hope I can protect my baby
From the reality of truth
The battered souls, the drunken fool
The girl that didn't come home from the prom
The victimizers, predators
The screams of a heart broken mom
I can take my stuff off, honey
I can put it in the chair
But daddy can't take it off completely
I can't act like it isn't there
I worry so you don't have to
I go the extra mile
I bleed so you'll be happy
I hurt so you can smile
"Take your stuff off, Daddy"
She said that just today
"Take your stuff off, Daddy"
So the bad guys can't take you away."

To Sheriff Daniels family as well as all members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office,

The news of Sheriff’s Daniels death was first learned watching television, but my family and I looked on in disbelief as it was reported. There are few words to express the lose for the Daniels family, the L.C.S.O. and the community he served.

Unfortunately, I did not know Sheriff Daniels personally, but have many friends and relatives who live and work in Lake County, which always had nothing but good words to say about the Sheriff. In this day and age, that is a true accomplishment in itself, and something for all of us to be proud of.

I am a Christian, but sometimes still have a hard time understanding the lose of such a wonderful person, but I’m sure the Lord has something much better intended for him, and his death will make real difference in some way.

Our thoughts and prays are with all of you, and from all of us at the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, we will always be here for you!
