I spoke with Keith the night before his assassination. I was busy finishing up end of the shift paperwork and Keith came in to say hi. Unfortunately, I was busy and didn't spend any time communicating with him and only responded with a "HI" back. He passed away on my birthday, September 30. I have lost several brothers and sisters in blue, but Keith's hit me kind of hard.

I wish we could have had more time together. I was still very young when you were taken. Most of my memories of you are short but kind. I think of you often. Missing you today, Keith.

A long time has past now, but your memory still remains in my heart and mind in a very strong way. I find myself often laughing out loud as I think back to the Police Academy and remember all the great times spent joking and goofing off out under the shade trees behind our cars in the parking lot. Other times I can't seem to fight off the emotions and hold back some tears as I cant help but miss you Brother. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

Even tho I never had the opportunity to work right along side you brother I do still have very fond, and sometimes comical, memories of our time together at the police academy. I think about you often and you will never be forgotten.

I really miss you, today has been really hard for me I have replayed the conversation over and over in my head today, telling me about one of the most terrible thing our family has ever gone thru. Can't wait till the day we all get to be together again. Until then just keep watching over our family. Just know Keith you are a true hero to all of us. I love you Keith Edwin Houts RIP EOW 9-30-06

Keith, I wish that I could go back in time and erased that dreadful day. I know that you are in a better place and I guess it would be selfish of me to have my wish. I know you are in heaven smiling down as you patrol the streets of heaven. We miss you!!!!!

On September 28, 2006, Keith was shot during a routine traffic stop around 12:45pm A parents worse night mare. When we arrived at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Keith had the greatest doctor and nurse that God placed in our lives that days. We were told that if were lucky Keith would be a Christopher Reeves but God had other plans for Keith. On September 30, 2006, Keith when home to be with his Heavenly Father and what a day that was for Keith. We can only imagine what Heaven must be like. One of my favorite songs is I can only imagine, by Mercy Me. That song has new meaning for me today. Our sweet Keith no longer has to imagine what he will do when surrounded by His glory; he has seen His face. Keith left his pain and his sorrow, he is healthy, and whole. So now, I can only imagine. I imagine the smile on his face has never been more beautiful. Our son gone but not forgetten.
