Well this looks like we lost one of the caring, bravest, and funniest officer's in our department; however the heavens have a new Angel. I only knew you a short time while we worked at Southeast Jail for that year. I pray for your family during this difficult time and pray that the Lord guides them with a steady hand. Well bro see you later, Nemo Me Impune Lacessit!

Although I did not know you personally, I know many of your fellow Southeast Command brothers in blue. You are already missed, and your selfless service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, nor will it have been in vain for we shall all learn from it and your shining example. Rest easy my brother, for you are in a far better place, and we are far better people for having been served and protected by you all of these years. You were taken from us far too soon. Your family is in my prayers and may the good Lord watch over them in their time of grief. God bless you Rodney.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders
and said, "No Lord. I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges,
can't always be a saint."

"I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough...
and sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awful tough."

"But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep."

"And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I wept unmanly tears."

"I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear."

"If you've a place for me here, Lord,
it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But, if you don't...I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne,
where saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly
for the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."

I remember how you encouraged me to hang in there when I was miserable at my jail assignment and was eager to get back on the street. You would always ask me how many days I had left in my jail rotation countdown. You always smiled and said the end would come soon enough and things would get better. Things did get better until we lost you, Officer Johnson. I was back on the streets and booking a prisoner at the southeast jail where I met you when I heard the call drop on another officer's radio. I will always remember you, brother. Rest in peace.
