Reflections for Officer Rodney Joseph Johnson

Rodney, years ago you got me an HPD shirt with my name printed on the back. It's one of my favorite shirts to wear, even to this day.
Although wearing it is bittersweet; it reminds me of your great attitude, humor, kindness, heroism, as well as the terrible tragedy that took all that away from us 9 years ago. With everything going on in the world today, it makes me wish we had more Rodneys in the world.

You are still missed by all the lives you touched.

My thoughts and love to your family.

Today made seven years. Time went by fast. I remember everything as though it happened yesterday. I was thinking about my friend. I still see his smile as though he was still present here on earth.

I met Officer Johnson prior to my retirement from the Houston Police Department. Officer Johnson proved himself to be a competent and knowledgeable police officer His life was too short and the City of Houston lost a good man, His family will be in my prayers for a long time.

I still remember the first time I meet you in 2004-2005... I was a civilian working the SouthEast jail docket, court #13 . I was scared of you because you were sooo big compared to my 5'03" frame.

Once I got to know you, I found that you were a nice, funny, caring, humble man. I remember always telling you I wanted to be a Houston Police Officer but I didnt think I had what it took to be one of Houston's Finest.

I thought you'd get tired of hearing me talk about it so I stopped telling you. You wouldn't let me forget and constantly ask me when was I going to make that step and join the department.

I also remember the last time I saw you.... Jury Court #1 Judge Timberlake's court... You were no longer at SouthEast jail, neither was I. I briefly said hello and went on with the hectic daily work. I remember waiving at you from a distance to say bye.

I regret not talking to you more that day. I regret not telling you to take care and be safe. I took it for granted that I would see you on your next court date.

You always had faith in me, you believed in me when I didn't. You never got tired of encouraging me to go for what I wanted to do.

I became a cadet and proudly took the Oath of Honor in 2007. All along keeping your memories with me. You were right I do have what it takes to be one of Houston's Finest. Thank you for having faith in me. You are GREATLY MISSED !!
