Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Rodney Joseph Johnson

Thank you for a job well done. May you now rest in peace.

January 24, 2007

--"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou

Aloha Officer Rodney Johnson,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You served with the Houston Police Department, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and US Army. Your committment reflects the discipline you have to strive for excellence, honor, and integrity. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.

Officer Rodney Johnson, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.

--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

Officer Johnson excellence is what you gave everyday to your badge regardless of the circumstances. Every HPD unit reminds me of your loss. And the risk taken by men and women in law enforcment like you who everyday risk their lives is taken for granted. Sir, thank you for protecting us all.

To your family, I am so sorry for your loss. There aren't words to express---but know that only angels are called to heaven early. Officer Johnson was an angel in an HPD uniform who left too soon.

Dad, its been more than two months since you passed, but yet I remember vividly the day I recieved the horrible news of your death. These past few months have been hard for me, but I've been staying strong for mom and Reggie. Everyday I think about you and reminensce about the good times and memories that we shared. You know you and I were best friends, which is odd for a father-daugher relationship, you would tell me everything, and I would tell you everything. You always have talks with me about life, and life lessons and advice, and I truly believe you have prepared me for my adult life that I soon will be partaking in and I thank you for that and for LOVING me and PROTECTING me. I miss you soooo much, words can't describe it but I know that you are watching over me and protecting me in Heaven, and that gives me comfort.
-I LOVE YOU DADDY- YOUR ARE FOREVER IN MY HEART-

IT IS THOSE TIMES WE DON'T UNDERSTAND TO LOSE A LOVED ONE OR GOOD FRIEND. ONLY GOD KNOWS THE REASONING BEHIND HIS DECISIONS AND WHO ARE WE SO MINUTE TO QUESTION THEM. TAKE COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT RODNEY IS IN A BIGGER AND BETTER PLACE IN WHICH WE WILL ONE DAY MEET AGAIN. HE HAS GIVEN ALL AND WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR HIS GREATNESS. REST EASY RODNEY, FOR I DID NOT KNOW YOU, BUT THE REFLECTIONS SAY IT ALL. A GOOD MAN NEVER DIES AND HIS SPIRIT WILL LIVE ON FOREVER IN ALL THOSE THAT KNEW AND LOVED HIM.

To the family, Spouse and children of Officer Johnson. Nothing can be said or done to ease the pain and suffering that you all must be going through at this time. I just want to thank you for your loved one's dedication and sacrifice to make all of our live's safer. The simple fact that he stopped that vehicle when he did may have saved other citizens from a similiar fate. Enough cannot be said or done to exhault Officer Johnson for his selfless actions and his compation for protecting the public which he served. I want to personally thank him because my family is going through a family crisis with my brother having to stay at M.D. Anderson fighting AML. We are currently living in Houston and depend on people like Officer Johnson to protect us day in and day out. Again, thank you for your sacrifice and be forever proud. Job well done oh good and faithful servant... Well done! Proverbs 3:5&6

I want to first say THANK YOU for serving, protecting, and putting your life on the line for us. Truly there was an angel that protected you for 12years. My pastor talked about how everyone is given an assignment on earth, yours was complete, you did the assignment he put you on earth to do, Thank You! To your wife, and children there is not a week that passes that I do not pray for the Lord to give you strength. Although, I don't know you personally, but my loved one is a Houston Police Officer and it would be hard for me to accept something like this. May God give you peace and special blessings, I'm sorry for your loss and one day you will get to see him again.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Johnson. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Rodney, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Rodney's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Rodney's life was about so much more than the way he died. Rodney will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Johnson, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

"Police Sacrifice"

While you sleep, we're there.
When you're sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner, or celebrating Christmas we're there.
When its raining and cold, and you're glad to be in your home with your family, we're out there.
When it's your children's birthday, we're out there.
When it's our children's birthday we're still out there.
You put on a suit and dress to work, we strap on a ballistic vest and a gun.
There's little room for error in your job, in ours there is none.
An error by you means a demotion, an error by us means a funeral.
When you tell your families "see you tonight"as you leave for work, you mean it.
When we tell our family that, we pray we will.
At your job you strive to succeed, at our job we strive to survive.
In your job, one bad person is the talk of the office, in our job one bad officer makes the news and suddenly were all bad.
In these headlines it's not what good we've done, but how much better it could have been done.
When you're scared you call us, when we're scared, we must carry on.
While you're eating a home cooked meal, we're having another hamburger.
While you're asleep with your spouse, ours sleep alone.
So the next time you're out with your family or friends, and you see a patrol car go by, remember the incredible sacrifice made by these officers every day.
Inside that car is a person that sacrifices his/her life, both professionally and personally Every day.

May God be with your family and friends during this difficult time.

Rodney -

They brought your killer to us. It was hard to look the guy in the face and keep our emotions in check as we took his confession. Your co-workers had found their way to our hallways with such anger in their eyes. Your brother Officers were so mad and so sad at the same time. We did our job well and this guy will pay the price. But what a terrible loss to our Department and your family. We will all miss you but will continue to keep that thin blue line in place when evil raises it's head as it did the day you died.

Rest well our brother, your job here is done....
