Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Robert Earl "Robbie" Green

It's a sky blue, picture postcard Sunday and they're playing baseball at The Robbie Green Memorial Softball Tournament-proceeds are going to Anthony & Amien Dulio's daughter, Allie, who is fighting cancer at age 6! Just another one of those times we see evil or tragedy beget some beautiful human responses. Cannot believe it's been 4 years tomorrow, Robbie: Father Lewis met us at the church door this morning with "We are praying for Robbie Green and his family/your family". He wasn't even here in 2006, Robbie, but the love folks have for you is still alive and spreading. We miss you and see you in Chaytor often-he looks just like you!

Still thinking of you. Funny how the thoughts just flow from time to time. I will always remember all of us as kids. Those were the best years:)

I was thinking about the old days growing up in Holly Hills today and I can't do that without thinking of you.
I know that you are walking and working with Jesus but I still feel sad that you are not here on Earth with us. When I heard about your dad, I smiled knowing he would be with you. We all keep your Mom in our prayers.

Robbie-3 years-so hard to believe. In many ways they've been long, long, long and in others, it seems as if the officers were just at our door.
Your father is now with you-I know that as well as I know anything I've ever known. How we all miss both of you-and will continue to do so. Losing your dad this week has been so hard-God's "plan" sure isn't easy to figure out so I don't try but I can only offer up any pain to Him in gratutide for the gifts He has given us-which include sharing your's and your father's lives.
You'd be so delighted with Chaytor ("don't be proud" he tells us but he's tickled that we are so proud of him as he achieves more and more every day). Thursday night Roy set up the T-ball set I found (half off at the pharmacy!) and lo and behold the child really got into it! He has Karen, Roy and me --well he coached us into--saying "Run Chaytor, run!" and it was so appropriate that as we waited for God in his mercy to bring your dad to you and to His Holy Side, Chaytor was playing baseball!!!
Tomorrow we again go to PHS auditorium for another Green funeral: of course the whole county PLUS other Virginians and Dixie League localities will be there to celebrate your father's amazing life. You were a perfect specimen of living his values and tomorrow we will celebrate all of your dad's virtues.
Please continue to be the guardian angel to your mom: I promise you I will work hard to keep Jean knowing she is loved by many-
Goodnight our hero-and give your dad our best,
mary

Robbie,

This is my fist time writing a reflection. I have always wanted to, but just couldn’t find the words that expressed how I feel. I think about you OFTEN! Especially today, the day your Dad is called home to be with you. I know I don’t need to tell you this, but your Dad was a one of a kind. A truly amazing Man. There was no wonder you turned out to be who you were. And now I know Chaytor will fill the shoes of his WONDERFUL Father and Grandfather. Charlie, Sr. will be missed as much as we all miss you. The only comfort for me is knowing you two are now together again! With much LOVE to all your family and friends!! God Bless!!

Ps. I still keep candy in my desk drawer, when I have some missing I think of you! :-)

Hi Rob. I know you already know your daddy's gone to heaven and standing right beside you. He must be so happy to finally see you again. Please look over your mama, little Charlie and Jason right now. I hope they can find some comfort knowing you two are together.

3 years. seems longer and only yesterday at the same time. We miss you. wonder what our lives would have been like if you were still here. Know that you are in my mind and heart everyday. Chaytor and I talk about you often. He remembers so much of you and I will always keep that alive in him. He remembered that we use to sing him "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and even ran upstairs to get the teddy bear the song goes with. He talks about our old house and remembers all the details, even things I forgot.
Love you, always, Your Wife, Karen.

Robbie Green! Robbie Green! It is so hard to believe it has been 3 years today. You have most definitely NOT been forgotten. We think of you often. In fact, your name came up just the other day in reference to the Hershey's Special Dark chocolates in the candy dish.

Hey Baby! As you know, Chaytor starts kindergarten on Tuesday! He had a great orientation and is excited to go to a "new school". He is sooo big and eating very well! Makes me nervous to see my grocery bill when he is a teenager.
We miss you and love you very much!

Robbie,

Sadly we never got to know you, but happy that I know and love your wife, your son and family.

We moved to Ptown a year after your death. And so much of you and your life is a part of mine now.

Yesterday Karen and I dropped of Chaytor at your parents house before heading to the beach. As I stood in the living room and looked at the walls filled with photos a recent one was added to the wall. It gave me chills - you could see the "empty" space next to Karen in the photo where you were standing. It gave me chills and my eyes started to fill with tears.

After we dropped off Chay and headed to Nags Head, we were driving on Beach Road and we passed a memorial site where an officer for Nags Head had been killed in a single car accident while responding to a call THAT morning!

Robbie, even though your gone, so much of you is a part of me! I cant wait to get through the gates of heaven one day and meet you!

Until then - you live through Chay!

As always, with much love!

Robbie Green! Robbie Green! We had the distinct pleasure of hunting Easter eggs with Chaytor & Karen this past weekend. Chaytor looks just like you and he is just precious! Now that I'm thinking about it, I've had a "Green Week" as I saw your dad twice yesterday. Been some changes, however we still miss you around here. We even have a "Green Room" devoted to your memory. They worked hard making display boxes and framing the pictures on display in the room. They did a fabulous job! Anyone coming into the office has the opportunity to see how much we all love and miss you!
