Reflections for Police Officer Edwanton Allen "Eddie" Thomas

I know what a huge loss Officer Thomas' death is to his family, his loved ones and friends, his co-workers, and the residents of Brier. How sad it is that we have to learn to cope with Eddie's death, as he was taken far too young. Please know that Eddie may be gone from this earth but he will never be forgotten in our hearts.

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Eddie was my best friend for over twenty years. I talked to him on a daily basis, and only an hour before he died.

Eddie was the most loveable, caring person that you could ever meet. I am truly honored to have a part of his life. He was the type of person that could always make you laugh, no matter the situation.

Please say a prayer for him, and bless his sole.

I love you my friend, and I will miss you so much!!!!

The way the Eddie lived his life reminds me of the following famous quote by Andrew Jackson:

"Every good citizen makes his country's honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he gives it."

Eddie distinguished himself as an outstanding police officer at the Evergreen State College where we patrolled together for six months. At the very young age of 22 his law enforcement abilities and professionalism were above reproach. He was an ambitious young officer who made a positive lasting impression on everyone he met with his brilliant smile and caring and helpful nature.

God had a plan for Eddie's life and he clearly completed his mission with valor and courage. Job well done good and faithful servant...

Rest in peace my Brother.

May your family be surrounded by God's presence and peace. May they be comforted by the loving arms of friends and loved ones. May they always know that they are in the hearts and minds of your brother and sister officers. And finally, may they rest in the knowledge that your life and your death made a difference to so many.

I met and worked with Officer Eddie Thomas for about 9 months in 2000 and never forgot his big smiling face. Eddie was a friendly, energetic and eager to learn young officer. I remember several things about Eddie, but the best thing was that he new how to find the good stuff. He combed the internet for deals from light bars to cars and in between. And, the funniest story was when he lost a patrol car for about 15-20 minutes until a woman called dispatch and asked why our patrol car was on her front lawn. All was good and nothing was broken. Of course the suspect was gone! We had a good laugh though after we retrieved the vehicle. As an Evergreen Officer he did a lot of community service and some escorts and Eddie had forgotten that he had left the window of the cage open. The suspect stole his patrol car while we were out with the tow company who was hooking up the suspects vehicle. The patrol cage didn't have a screen on it and the suspect was skinny enough to slip through the window with cuffs on. Of course since that time that has been changed and all our vehicles have screens! Boy were we surprised! The suspect was apprehended two weeks later and we found out that he had run because he had 3 strikes against him. We always get our man eventually! We laughed and laughed about it until we cried. Eddie was just a great young man and he just loved law enforcment. It was an honor to work with him, to know him and to be a part of his short life. Eddie will surely be missed.
