Gary, You were a great friend and inspiration. Your death was so unexpected. We will continue to morn for you, and Lt. Dudley. You were always there, and you kept me on my bicycle on those trips to Washington D.C. with The Police Unity Tour. Your were there for me and kept me on my bicycle with the COPS Ride around Indiana. You often said that I had a great "Heart". It was you with that heart. You never stopped caring for your fellow man/woman. You never stopped believing of the good in us all. You are a hero. I will remember the lessons that you taught by living those lessons. Continue watching over us, and keep us safe. I love you my brother! You, and our brother Dudley, ride on. We will see you again.

Words are hard to find with the loss of this loving and compassionate brother. He was doing something special to help those who had already suffered terrible losses.

One comes to mind, "Angel"

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and lovedDeputy Martin, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Gary, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Gary's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Gary's life was about so much more than the way he died. Gary will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Deputy Martin, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Words cannot express the loss of a man who has dedicated his life to helping others. Gary was a dedicated Law Enforcement Office and Teacher. I am honored that I knew him as a student and colleague. Gary gave much to our community and his contributions can be seen in the many current and future Criminal Justice professionals that he taught. His years as a working professional and professor will continue to blossom through those who were touched by his humanity.

May God bless those closest to him and allow his example to be a guide for those of us he touched.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Spc Deputy Martin, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest
