Dear Family,

As a sister-in-law to fallen Deputy Brandy Winfield and as a wife of Officer Cory Winfield here in Marion, I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to your family. This is the most difficult time to try to work through...the emotions, the pain and the unanswered questions seem to overtake you.
Please know that there are others out here in this crazy world we live in who understand the path that is ahead of you now. There really are no right words or helpful sayings...just hold on to your loved ones and the memories.
Hold your head high with pride becuase YOUR fallen officer is a hero to everyone in your family, your great city (that my husband and I lived in a few years ago) and to the entire law enforcement family. We understand what all of this means to you and that there are feelings that are a mixture of grief and pride.
Please know that your hero will not be forgotten and will always live on with you.
Perhaps we will meet someday, perhaps not...but remember that others are out here to help you get through...

I knew you as A.J. the detective, I'm sorry I didn't get to know you on a more personal level as A.J. the friend. I enjoyed your smile every time you came into the district to book a female or to just pass through and grab a copy of something. That smile will make you one of a kind forever. I was honored to attend every part of your services and hoped that you were watching from above seeing how very much you were loved in different ways by so many. Be at peace now for it is your time to shine and make lasting impressions from a bigger and brighter place!

I had the occasion to meet your partner's mother in law in court the other day. I handled a case where her house was shot here in Vegas. She told me of the story of your passing. Just wanted you to know we all thank you for your efforts. See you in Heaven!!!

AJ,

This morning I walked in the hero run and all I could think about was you. You were on everyones mind as we walked pasted the memorial and laid flowers. I struggle daily with your passing and hope that you are in a better place where there is no evil. I just know you are. I know you are in the sunshine that made this morning so beautiful (when we all thought it was going to rain). I know you are watching over your family and hugging them tightly to get them through this time. I just want to go back to when you were still here and make time freeze. Maybe then will we find peace...and I wanted to watch and see the time it took you to run the 5 mile this year. When I crossed the finish line, your time from last year was only 7 minutes away on the runners side. I cannot make sense of your death...such a wonderful man...I don't understand...my husband cannot talk about you without a tear running down his face. We have held each other for hours just crying. Why you? AJ, we will always remember and we will always honor you. God needed you and I pray that we will all be able to get together again and find happiness where we do not have to classify the time as before you died or after. I promise to do all that I can to help Amy and Eric. You will be forever missed and there is a hole forever in our hearts. Please rest in peace. You deserve it.

A great American hero, gave his life for the citizens of a great city. I met AJ, several years ago, through my brother-in-law, Officer Ken Florjancic, CPD, he was and always will be a great man, and a great police officer. My heart goes out to his family, and fellow brothers in blue. My God forever craddle him in his loving arms, for now he patrols a greater beat.
Sincerely & Respectfully,

Jon, I grew up in cleveland all my life and in 1997, at the age of 18, I left to join the Marine Corps. I have been fighting evil men ever since, just as you did. I'm 28 now currently in afghanistan and when I'm done in a year, i will be coming home to join the Cleveland Police Dept. I will do my best to fill your shoes. Thank you for your bravery, because bravery is the best word to describe what guys like us do.

Jon~ I am still in disbelief that you are really gone. It just seemed like yesterday that you and Amy FINALLY got together and married. Amy was my friend first and then you. You were the best thing that happened to her. She was soooo happy to be married and called you her "best friend." The tears at your wedding were geniune and I felt beyond proud that Amy met you. You and Amy were one of the good things that came out of a bad situation other than my son. I will always remember your smile and how happy you were. I want you to know that I will always look after Amy and Eric, whether she is in Cleveland or Monroeville. She is my forever friend and I will try to be there for her. I can't imagine her pain, but I know that she loves Eric and will continue on. Please look out for her and Eric and send good things her way. Keep her safe and happy as you always were. She will make you proud to be Eric's father. You just watch up there and see.

AJ: Your death brings great loss to our department, our city, and our Westpark community. People who didn't even know you lined the sidewalks with candles last week in your honor, and they, as us, will always be here for your family for whatever they need. Serving as one of your pallbearers, and folding the flag that was presented to Amy, was the greatest honor of my life and I will cherish that memory forever. Take your rest now, and we will see you again real soon.

Dear Amy and Eric,

We are still in disbelief of this tragedy. Our hearts are very much in pain. I can't begin to know yours. We knew you as neighbors, very private at that, but still knew you enough to know how much your little family met to all of you.

John was truely a great man and genuine with outmost sincerity. He was friendly, kind, considerate and thoughtful of others around him.

He always seemed to be happy, always smiling even through his most difficult times.

We will miss him greatly in this neighborhood, espeically not seeing him out in his yard, which he took pride in, and walking his son, whom he loved dearly.

We just have to know that our pain we feel will subside and knowing that is God's hand and soon you will begin to talk and tell stories about John and know that he to is right there by all our sides.

God Bless All That Grieve With Us and (John keep watching us from above and protect us)

Your Neighbors

A.J., it's been a pleasure working with you in the District. I was honored to stand guard at your viewing and what stuck me the hardest was looking at your family pictures of you, your wife and son. Eric had the same smile as you did in that picture. You will be missed.

You are in our Prayers AJ, you were a friend, and commrade to my wife. For the many years working together at the Indians games, you brought a smile and many laughs to her day. Though I know you could never read this, I hope others will understand how dear you were to so many. How you touched the lives of your co-workers who called you friend and brother. There is a large empty hole in all our lives with your passing. Your forever smile will help heal the pain. Amy & Eric, From one officers family to yours, we greive with you, cry with you and will always remember with you. We will always be with you and here when you need us. All of our love!
