As a fellow motor officer, I understand the passion and pride you must have had everytime you mounted your motor. Thank you for protecting our streets and our families.

NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY.

RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE,
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE.

"IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY.
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE TO PAY.

MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS,
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS.

THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST,
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST.

MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND,
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND.

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
AND WITH A HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE,

I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST...

DEAR GOD LET MY NAME BE THE LAST.

To friends and family of officer Shuck. I did not know him very well but it breaks my heart to see what he has left behind. My husban had a run in with Dennis when he was 17 for drinking under the age and was brought home by officer Shuck. He was a very well respected office and never will be forgotten. He will always be with you in your heart. We all miss you Dennis and ride on with pride. Your duty is finished here on earth and watch over your family from above.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis McElderry. (Dennis was killed January 2003 while assisting during a high speed chase.) Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Shuck, especially to his fiancee. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for your Dennis, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Dennis' life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Dennis' life was about so much more than the way he died. Dennis will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Shuck, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

It is obvious from the information listed that Officer Shuck was meant to give of himself for others. Serving his country and home town were a part of his character. It takes a strong person to defend and protect others even if the cost is their own life. I am glad to hear he passed those values on to his children. It is a shame he was taken from his family so soon.

May God provide peace and comfort to his family, friends and co-workers in this, their hour of need. It won't be an easy road, but by supporting each other it may be made easier.

God speed and good rest, your brothers and sisters in blue will take over now.

I met Officer Shuck about six years ago while driving through Cheyenne. I was unfamiliar with the streets and the speed limits, but soon received a well deserved, $75 education on Wyoming traffic laws. I made an honest mistake and got what I deserved. I remember driving away, ticket in hand, and commenting to my wife about his polite demeanor and professionalism. When I paid the ticket later that day I told the court clerk I had just met the nicest cop in the world.

That was my very first traffic ticket. Since then I have tried to pattern my own stops and citizen contacts after my brief meeting with with Officer Shuck. He was a textbook example of how a police officer should act when making contacts, and in my opinion, he brought great credit on the Cheyenne Police Department.

Thank you for the lesson Officer Shuck, not only on traffic laws, but on how police officers should treat the public.
