Mike, words cannot express the emotions I have felt these last 9 days. You strolled into my life only 6 months ago, and now you are gone from me. From what I'm hearing about the first time we met, I had you from "hello". You captured me with your charm and your sweet nature, and I cherish every moment we spent together. You were such a gentleman and I have never known a man as sweet and tender as you were to me. We turned quite a few heads there for a while, and gave folks something to talk about I'm sure, but I wouldn't change it for any amount of money. We talked, we laughed, we shared our desires, our fears, our weaknesses, and our hearts. Never has anyone ever loved me as sincerely and completely as you did.

You always lifted me up if I was down, you constantly praised me and reminded me how strong I am, and told me how proud you were of my accomplishments. You told me you had prayed every night asking God to send you a "good lady" and he sent you me. Though we only had a short time together and everything wasn't always the way we wanted it to be, it was an extremely happy time for us both. People I have never met have come to me and said they have heard good things about me. Sometime I'd like to hear what you told them.

We fought the battle with you those 5 days in the hospital, and I know you knew we were there when you squeezed our hands that day. After that I know you slowly started to fade away, but we never stopped talking to you, cheering you on, and we never stopped praying.

I wasn't ready for you to go. It's so hard for me to believe it was your time, but I have to. We won't be taking that trip to the mountains for my birthday now. You've gone to a higher mountain to watch over us all. Your family will have a lot of love and support around them. They know I am here if they need me.

I hope I was as much a blessing in your life as you were in mine. I know things happened recently for a reason, and as time goes on maybe I will understand the sequence of events. I do understand that in your mind we were never apart.

It comforts me to know that you have no more worries, no more pain, and I have a "Guardian Angel". I miss you terribly already but I know that one day I will see you again in Heaven.

Rest in peace my love. Thank you for the wonderful memories of the last months, and the unconditional love you so freely gave me. You have taught me a lot in such a short time and I will miss your smile, your laughter, and all the little things you used to do. Most of all I will miss your hugs, they were the most wonderful hugs. There will never be another one like you. You were one of a kind.

I am proud to have been called "Burks Baby" and I am realizing now how important that was. I miss you, and I will always always love you. You are forever in my heart and...

I am forever,
Your Lady

Mike, I thank you for everything you taught me. This past week I proudly told others that you were the first person I ever rode with 13 years ago. I learned a lot from you and we had our share of fun "bird doggin", among other things. My prayers are with your family. I just want them to know the admiration I have for you. I will miss hearing you laugh while you were telling war stories. Thanks again for helping teach me how to dirt road police. You didn't have to, but you did. I won't forget you.

So often at times like this you feel law enforcement is fogotten and not thanked enough..Then things like this remind people that you are here protecting our lives, or homes, or children, and our communities..The job is hard and there are many sacrifices made daily and through out your careers that go unknown and unseen till you are part of this great thing we have know as the Law Enforcement Family..Once in this great family you feel so loved and comforted by all in it..When you loose one you feel that hole in your heart if you have known the officer or not..You BRAVE individuals protect and serve us daily and are at times called to lay down your life for us all and for this I thank you Sgt. Burks for the many years that you served my community that I grew up in..May God bless you and guide your family to find the peace in their hearts to over come their pain they feel.

Micah gave me my first Junior Deputy badge back in 1993. He told me that all I needed to do now is get older so that I could become a "Dirt Road Cop", well, I may not be that type but he did forever change me by giving me that badge and in a way initiating me into the brotherhood that I'm in today at such an early age. Although his watch is over, he is still subject to call in heaven.

We once again have lost a part of the brotherhood of law enforcement. These times are difficult and the family and department has a long road of recovery ahead of them. The staff of Cops Evangelist Ministries would like you to know that we are and will continue to pray for you in this time of sorrow. Remember that God will not give you more then you can handle. Philippians 4:13 says…I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.
