My brother Joselito. Although I never had the chance to meeet you I have heard nothing but wonderful things from you from my brothers and sisters in the East Precinct. My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Barber and all of his family, especially his fiance'. As a wife of a police officer, she received the news that her loved one was taken from her, which is something that every spouse of a police officer dreads hearing. I don't have the words to express how unfair it is that this young officer was taken from his family and also from the job that he loved and was so proud to do. Joselito, please rest in peace and always look down on your fiance, family and your brothers and sisters in law enforcement and help keep this safe.

To the family of Officer Barber and my SPD brothers and sisters:

My heart sank as I heard of the loss of another of SPD's finest. As stated in other reflections, it doesn't matter if you have 25 years on the job or 25 days....you are one of us. Your family hopefully can take solace in the fact that you chose an honorable profession which you were dedicated to. Watch over us Joselio...

Jose,

I only got a few chance to meet with you while you were in the academy. I sat in on them while monitoring different groups during practice sessions. You were always eager to learn and full of questions. You were only on the job for a short time, but you made a big impact on people in that time. You did not know it but you patrolled my childhood neighborhood, and current neighborhood of my mother. Please keep watch over the rest of us while you are in heaven. May justice be served! Rest in peace brother...we will take continue your watch!

I was saddened to hear the news last night. A good friend of mine is an officer with the Seattle Police Department and I can only imagine the grief that she is going through right now.

Sadly, I have been down this road before with two other friends who are both officers-one from Des Moines PD and another from Federal Way PD. Time will heal wounds, but we will not forget their sacrifice.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and co-workers of Officer Barber. May he rest in peace in the loving arms of the One hwo created him and loves him for eternity.

Joselito, I did not get to meet you yet but I was at the scene of your accident while our traffic investigators processed the scene. I pray for your soul and your families loss. You were way too young and did not have enought time to do the duty you signed up for the citizens of Seattle. May God Bless you and keep you

I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the family of Joselito Barber. I met you last night at the site of the collision and you were a remarkable group. I met Joselito only twice in the Precinct but something that really stuck with me, as anytime I meet a rookie officer, was the fire in his eyes as he was getting ready for work. After eight plus years on the department it is easy to forget that we serve the citizens and our duty is something that is a privilege and honor to do. I can remember how refreshed I felt after speaking with him. It really made me remember when I first got on the job. So Joselito I will work on remembering that fire and determination that I saw in you. The City has lost a great Officer at the start of a great career to a sensless crime. Do not worry about your loved ones. They are, and always will be part of the law enforcement family. You rest and we will all see you another day.

God bless and thank you for helping me remember what a rewarding job that we have.

Rest in peace Officer Barber. Thank you for choosing to serve and protect your family, your friends and your citizens of Seattle. Time served matters not...5 months or 25 years, the pain is still the same.

On behalf of the Sterling Heights Police Department, please accept our sincere condolences. You are not alone in your grief.
