It is hard to put into words how someone "we" may not even know personally, tragic death can teach us so much.

It has been very sad but also very interesting reading all of the messages in HONOR of Joselito Barber.

None of us can know the PAIN it brought his loved ones, but we all know the pain of losing someone close to us.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Barber, especially to his fiancee. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Joselito, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Joselito's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Joselito's life was about so much more than the way he died. Joselito will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Barber, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

From one mother to another: Mrs. Barber, your son died exactly one week after mine. My son was a California Highway Patrolman and he also died by being struck by an impaired driver in a hit and run. He was 33 years old. We had just returned to Washington from his funeral in California when I saw the news report of your son's death. My heart is broken for both of these valiant young men whose lives were cut short way too soon. I grieve with you and your family.

Officer Barber,

Our lives crossed paths for a couple of spare moment in time before you left for heaven, and I am very thank for those moments we met. At a job where I see over 100 faces every day, I remembered you, but I will also never forget you. I saw you a week later, and this time it was on the news, and it broke my heart. Officer Barber you have touched mine and many more lives than you could ever imagine. You have taught me to live life to the fullest, every second I should cherish like its my last, but I wish I didn’t have to be taught that message from your tragedy, instead I wish you were here to tell me. You’re a hero to me, and always will be, until we meet again rest in peace Officer Barber.

Don't quit when
the tide is lowest,
For it's just about
to turn.
Don't quit over doubts
and questions,
For there's something
you may learn.
Don't quit when
the night is darkest,
For it's just a little while
till dawn;
Don't quit when you've
run the farthest
For the race is almost won.
Don't quit when
the hill is steepest,
For your goal is
almost nigh;
Don't quit, for you're
not a failure
Until you fail to try.

You did NOT die in van Officer Barber. You taught more lessons than you will ever know.

On the morning of August 22 2006, I "visited" you at Bonney-Watson.

I never knew you, but "something" told me to go to you and pay my respects.

One of the speakers at your Service was right. Sometimes it takes someones passing to make us realize how SPECIAL they are.

You are not alone at Bonney-Watson Officer Barber MANY others are also with you if even only in spirit.

I don't know why, (maybe it's because of all I'm dealing with in my own life) but your death BROKE my heart and I didn't even know you.

YOU TAUGHT me (and I hope others) a LESSON on how PRECIOUS life is.

Now you are in HEAVEN "protecting" all of our loved ones who have gone before us.

You TRULY are an Angel "Lito".

August 23, 2006

Brother in Blue, go and take your rest. You gave your life to protect....if not you, it would have certainly been a pedestrian or another motorist that the wench would have hit.

Like the verse goes, There is no greater love than a man lay down his life for his friends. Your fiance' and family are in my prayers.

The thin blue line gets thinner...

To know the Rose is to know God
To know the faded Rose will bloom again
Is to know Eternity.

Your death touched more hearts than you will ever know.

August 23, 2006

I never met you, but your death was like a stab in my heart and woke me up to the fact that life is so very precious and unless someone is trying to ruin our life, don't waite until "tomorrow" to forgive someone. For tomorrow isn't always going to be there.

Rest in PEACE Officer Barber. YOU touched more hearts than you will ever know.

Just someone who cares
