We visit this site often with the hopes that its list will not get longer. When I see a new name on the list my heart drops to the floor knowing that another Father, Mother, Son, Daughter, etc.. has given their life in the line of duty. It continually brings tears to my eyes when I read the personal reflections that are left by the fallen Officer's Family and Friends. I hope you can rest easy knowing that this brave HERO is watching over us from his place in Heaven. He served with honor and will never be forgotten. Rest Easy Detective Shields . We will truly miss you. God Bless you and your Family.

Detective Shields:
There are no words that can be offered to your family to ease their pain and sorrow, with the exception that you lived and died in a manner that our Lord has sanctified in the Bible: "Blessed is the man who lays down his life for another".
You have made us all proud of you, and you will ALWAYS be a part of the greatest fraternity known to mankind...police officer. May Almighty God hold you in His hand, and know that your death was not in vain. No, rather, it will inspire the rest of us, to do our job that much more diligently, and with much more determination. Rest in peace brother, we have the watch now. Amen.

A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE...
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER, AS YOU WIPE YOUR TEARS, THE JOY I HAVE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.
