To the family and loved ones of Officer Peter William Faatz and his fellow officers with the Atlanta Police Department:

I wanted to express my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Peter was killed in the line of duty. I hope that you are comforted by the support of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. There are many people who will help you on the painful journey ahead. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Although I never had the privilege of meeting Peter, I feel as if I know him through the loving reflections left by loved ones and friends. His valor and courage will never be forgotten.

I hope that God is holding him in the sweetest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul.

I am so sorry that Peter was robbed of his life so young and so tragically, but through his heroism and the profound sense of duty with which he lived his life, he made an immeasurable difference. May his spirit continue to soar and may his memory continue to inspire.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Peter gave to his community and the citizens of Georgia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 3, 2006.

Car accidents take far too many lives of our Brothers and Sisters, but they are often just that, accidents. Officer Faatz, you only got to give 16 months of your life to the Atlanta Police Department, but I’m sure you’ll give the rest of eternity to your fellow officers when they respond to calls, always warning them that the next corner might bring danger.

God Bless and Rest in Peace, Brother.

Faatz, you were always there for me. Whenever I pulled out on a traffic stop, I know you would be pulling up behind me. Whenever I'm responding to a fight call I could always count on you to advise radio you would be in route with me. I can't help but to think of our last conversation the night before your accident. You let me borrow a pair of your handcuffs and when I raised you on radio to return them, you told me "go ahead and hold on to them, I'm already Code 8." It's just not fair. Everyday I try to process the fact that you're not here with us anymore, but I can't seem to do that. I keep waiting to hear your voice on the radio pulling out on a 54. I keep waiting for you to call and bug me about going out to the bar. Faatz, I miss you.

Faatz, I can't believe this... I let the folks at MCAS Beaufort PMO know, a lot of the folks we know are still there. You always were ready with an answer to anything, even if I didn't always agree I, I have to admit you had a lot of good stuff to say. You are a good Marine still and I hope you rest in peace.

This is a very sad time for all of us. I ran a call with Ofc Faatz the week before the accident. It was an assault call, not even his call, but he wanted to stop and check on us. He stayed and talked for a few minutes to make sure we were all right. I have worked for other ems services and never felt as much a part of the family as I do with APD. I am hoping that we can all make it through this difficult time. Faatz you will missed by all and I am in hopes that we can help look after your brothers and sisters on the street.

Rest now my Brother in Blue. Though your time here with us is come to a close, your job to watch over us all has just begun. Watching over us all is a much greater responsibility and honor. You will be surrounded by best of the best who have gone on before you to watch over us. To your family and friends the healing process never ends, it just becomes easier to talk about.
