Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Michael Anthony Callin

It is with great sadness and difficulty that I write this. I had the distinct honor and privilege of working side by side with Mike and I am proud to call him my friend. I remember when he worked as a dispatcher and I would see him when I went to work out at our communications center. Mike could not wait to get out on the road and begin working as a Deputy Sheriff. When Mike came to my squad, I was very proud to see him evolve and become proficient at this difficult job we choose to do. D/S Mike Callin was a courageous man with the utmost integrity. He always had a grin on his face and I never heard him belittle or mistreat others. He is one of the many fine people that make me proud to wear this badge. Mike, you will be missed and my heart and thoughts go out to you, your family and our friends. I miss you my friend.

I will always remember Mike calling me to ride along when he was still in the Comm Center. He was an eager kid with a heart of gold and would have done this job for free. My heart is heavy tonight and I will miss you very much. You were a great cop and a better friend. I'll see you inside the Eastern Gate one day brother.

Michael,

You kept fighting to stay with us but God had other plans. As I sat and listened to your friends and family talk, I began to understand how truely blessed they are to have had you in their lives. I am honored to be able to help your family during this most difficult time. I know that your spirit will continue to be with us and watch over us. You are forever in my heart and prayers. Rest in Peace.

Mike,

I have been in shock ever since I heard the news. You were a true friend and great zone partner who always was there to back me up on calls and traffic stops when we both worked Zone 43 Sector 4 midnights. We also shared a lot of laughs together!

You aways offered to help on calls and would do anything to help others. I knew you were excited when you told me about being in the "Motors Unit". It was evident in your voice when I spoke to you two weeks ago on the phone.

I will miss the emails and the phone calls. I will always keep your wife and family in my thoughts and prayers.

Callin Family,
Your loss is felt very deeply and I can only hope and pray that you can take comfort in the memories you have of Mike. I can truly understand what you are going through right now and the pain you are feeling. Please know you may call on me at any time, day or night. If only for a shoulder to lean on or just someone to have a cup of coffee with from someone who has been where you are now. After my husband was killed last year in Lake County, there was such an outpouring show of support from every walk of life, to include so many from OCSO. It wasnt until months later that I realized how much everyones support helped me get through some of the hard times, as I hope and pray, it will be of comfort to you as well.

Mike,
As God's eyes fell upon Wayne last year, they to, have fallen upon you tonight. He has chosen another beautiful, strong and brave soul to guard his kingdom. As Wayne continues to guide us, may you keep a gentle hand on your family and give them the strength they need to get through the tough road ahead.

I cant believe this has happened. It still dosnt feel real. Mike has a wonderful family that will love him forever and friends that will never forget. Mike is truly the kind of guy that would drop whatever he was doing to help you. It didnt matter if it interfered with his plans. He was the most giving person I have ever known.

This is a loss that will be felt for years to come. Who knows what kind of great things Mike was going to do, and who he would touch. Mike was not just a great cop but a great christian. He was active in the church and helped save me. I am honored and humbled to have known Mike and his family.

Mike -

when I heard of the incident I was sickened by the act of selfish cowardice that put you in a fight for your life. I just received the word that your valiant fight was over, and now I feel numb. You were exactly the kind of cop this agency and community needed...passionate in your work, sound in your tactics, and dedicated to the cause. Seeing you arrive on any call I answered gave me a sense of calm, knowing my back was covered without question.

To Mike's family - you can be proud that you raised the man who meant so much to his community and peers. We all loved Mike from the bottom of our hearts as you did, and his absence will be felt by me as long as I take air into my lungs. I will stand tall to mourn the loss, and stand proud to have known him. Rest easy, brother...we have the watch from here.

What a tragic and senseless loss! You served this community with courage and integrity, and your life was stolen by a coward who wasn't man enough to face the consequences of his actions. Deputy Callin, your ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten by any member of O.P.D. or O.C.S.O. Rest in peace sir, and please keep a watchful eye over us.

Dear Dave,
Although I have been gone for 3 years I still feel very close to all of my brothers and sisters. I watch the events every night and pray for you all at night. I know that no words can even begin to help heal the pain, but the Lord can. He now has another Angel to walk his beat and watch over the younger squads emerging from the academies. Having worked with you for 15 years and with Mike for 2 plus, I can not think of a greater person to be that Angel.
Your gift to the Centeral Florida Community will never be fully understood by civilians, but is by all in the Law Enforcement Community.
God Bless

Your loved ones, family and close friends are in my thoughts. They will all ask the question why, over and over but will never receive an answer to that question. Like me, I'm sure it will be the first question they ask when they leave this world. There are no words I can offer to help ease their broken hearts and they have a long and rough road ahead of them. All they can do is take one day at a time and keep your memory alive for as long as they walk this earth. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten by those that love you nor will the Blue Family ever let you be forgotten. Wrap your wings around your loved ones and protect them from harm and help ease their broken hearts. Your memory will live forever as Heroes Never Die.
