Reflections for Police Officer Nick-Tomasito Birco

Officer Birco, thank you for your service. You will, most certainly, be missed by the citizens of San Francisco, your family, friends and your brothers and sisters in blue.
I am confident that your spiritual presence will be felt by your fellow officers as they patrol the streets your physical body has left behind. I am equally confident in knowing that, in time, you will be joined by all those who know and love you. The pain they feel now will only intensify the pleasure of joining you later.

Rest now, Officer Birco.

Condolences to the officers of the San Francisco Police Department, and to Officer Birco's family.

Your department seems to have an Association President who is doing a great job of speaking out for his members. When he does so, he's speaking for all of us.

To the family, friends and coworkers of Officer Birco,

I am sorry for your loss, as are all police officers and law abiding citizens of this great country. Officer Birco may be gone, but no law enforcement officer will ever forget his selfless actions. As we each do our sworn duty every day, so shall he live on through us.

Our condolences to our brothers and sisters of the San Francisco Police Department and the entire Birco family. To quote ODMP, "It is not an agency that loses an officer...it's an entire Nation". Coast to Coast, his service and his sacrifice will be remembered...forever.

I would like Officer Birco's family and his fellow officers to know to just KEEP THE FAITH because Officer Birco is still a FINE OUTSTANDING OFFICER, he just got promoted and moved upstairs. He will not receice chevrons, he will not receive bars,he will not receive a gold or silver oak leaf nor will he receive the silver eagle. He will however receive the WINGS of an angle which is the highest promotion of all and will outrank everyone one here on earth.

PS The new media will continue to second guess everything we do as police Officers until one of them need us to save the life of one of them. Oh never mind, they will probably second guess that too if it will make them look good at our expense.
God Bless Officer's Birco's Family and Fellow Officer's.

Not only was Officer Birco serving as a police officer for the city of San Francisco but he was a Gulf war veteran as well. He is the epitome of a public servant and obviously it was his goal to make the city of San Francisco as well as the United States of America a better place to live. May the lord be with him and his family and I salute him for the man he tried to be.

I just saw the video of what is said to be the Police Chief of San Francisco commenting on the scum that caused Officer Birco's death and the "justice" system that caused him to be free as well as those who are trying to make this whole incident to be the fault of the Police.

GOD BLESS THAT MAN! If only every chief were as outspoken and quick to defend the people who are out there, day after day, night after night, in the trenches.

Nick, as you look down on what's going on, take heart that you and your colleagues are being defended, even though you should not have to be.

I think, knowing you have a chief like that, you WILL Rest in Peace. May we all be so lucky.

We received an e-mail with the SFPOA President responding to the incredible response by the media to this tragedy. You are fortunate to have someone like him, not playing political games, but stating what so many others should state when the media goes off with their wild accusations against the police force. We too lost a relative, a St. Louis Police Officer, to a criminal who had been repeatedly charged and released. We often think the same thing that the SFPOA President said, why not just sit and wait until someone calls before responding, why put your life on the line for people who don't care? But we think that the majority do care, at least we hope so.

To hear of another family having to go through this heartbreak, brings back all of the pain and hurt that we experienced. I wish there was some way for us to reach out and make it easier for you.

Take one day at a time, continue to have faith, as hard as it may be right now and reach out to your family in Blue. They will be there to help you...we know that for a fact.

God Bless all of the family and friends of Officer Birco and all law enforcement officers...and Nick thank you, for your courage and commitment to protecting the citizens of SF. May you rest in peace and continue to watch over your family.

I want to send prayers the your family, friends and fellow officers. I pray that God is with them as they go thru the days a head. I hope that they put their faith in God and know that he is there, that they know you are in their heart and that is something no one can take away from them. I hope they are able to remember the good times they shared and take comfort that you are with God and you are now serving your time on his streets. As a sister of a police officer my heart goes out when I hear of a fallen officer as I know that my brother could be the next. I pray that that God will have mercy on the suspects. Thank you for praying the ultimate price so that so many other can live in peace.

Officer Birco, you will be remembered not only as a hero to those you protected, but also by those who work in law enforcement. May your family be comforted in this difficult time and may we all extend thanks to them as well. They too have paid the ultimate price.
Rest in peace brother and may God be with you and your family! We will continue to fight the fight.

Hey Nick,
I just wanted to tell you that I was thinking of you. Today was a hard day for me. I had so much I wanted to talk to you about and I couldn't. I had so many different emotions today it was unbelievable. One second I was fine and then I felt overhwhelmed with sadness. I tried to have fun at the gym but you are missing. It is not the same and I know I have to realize that it can never be the same anymore. I miss you so much. There are so many if onlys...in my head that I am just consumed by it all. I am trying to be a different person. I promised myself after your death that I would try harder to appreciate people and be a good friend, just like you were. But frankly I do not know how you did it. It is hard to be a good friend, but you did it every day. Thank you...missing you...thinking of you..

I recieved, via E-mail, the address by the SFPOA President in relation to the mind boggling response by the media to this tragedy. We too have lost officers (and innocent civilians)to people who have been repeatedly charged and released and many who have been deported and returned. I am so sorry to hear of Nick's passing and offer my condolences. I think the Presidents address to the media was excellent and, I beleive, did justice to Nick's memory. Whether in Canada or the US, we are all brother and sister officers and unfortunately are forced to deal with the same garbage from certain judges and media. I hope the Presidents address makes a difference in your neck of the woods. I hope Nick rests in peace. God bless.

Officer Nick-Tomasito Birco,
Thank you for your dedication and service to all. It is very disturbing and sad to hear that another hero has lost his life while doing his job trying to keep others safe. It is even more disturbing that it was at the hands of an individual who demonstrated on several occasions that he has no regard for the law, the courts or the people who enforce it. I viewed the video of Gary Delagnes that was e-mailed to me and he would have made you proud. It is obvious that he stands behind his Officers and he exemplifies the true qualities of a supervisor. His words were true and his emotions were strong. I applaud him for his stand against the injustice. Rest in peace Brother, you will not be forgotten. God Bless the Birco family and the men and woman of the San Francisco Police Dept. Our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers are with you all.

Sincerely,

Detective Kevin M. Christopher

I just viewed a portion of a video of an outraged SFPD supervisor, that was emailed to me. I'm not sure of the facts, but I am so sorry for what I can imagine the media seems to have done (and often does do - bias, inaccurate, slanderous stories). Bravo to that outspoken supervisor!
No matter what, the people who count, know the truth! You did your job and your precious life was taken by another scumbag, after the criminal justice system has failed. God bless you and your family (blood and brotherhood). May you rest in peace and look proudly down upon and over those who know and will always love you!

Nick,

I always think of you-but especially on Tuesday nights-because a few Tuesdays ago-I was able to share some last moments with you.

I remember that night vividly. I parked my car next to yours as I always do.

I walked in and saw you lifting weights with the Burton backpack, your Nano iPod and your black Nike outfit.

We talked before spin class. You took class in the front-second bike over so I could see your face like you always do.

We had that one moment in class when we looked at each other and started cracking up (our inside joke) You made me laugh so hard.

You waited for me and we walked over to step class. We chatted it up with a friend.

You set up my step (all fuchsia risers, to the left of the stereo-just how I like it)

I put my superfly white retro Adidas bag that you got me down near the stereo and you placed your Burton backpack against the purple pillar.

You helped out Eunice and Weez when they came in late.

You left like you always do mid way through class. I watched you get your backpack and I vividly remember turning around, facing you and saluting you saying “see ya” that night.

Then you left.

And I would never see you again.

I walked out that night with Weez. You would always walk us out (our own personal body guard) but you had to get to work that tragic night. I shared a story with Weez about what you did for me that past Saturday morning and how you are such a nice guy. Thanks for that Nick.

A familiar face walked in to class this past Tuesday-can you imagine? And I thought you might be there. Were you? There was one sole bike left empty right up front close to where you would’ve been. I hope you were there. I looked at the bike and imagined you there and laughed again at our joke. I wish so much that you are there with me every time I teach. I yearn for your presence. We all do.

I still remember that Tuesday night Nick. I still remember you. I still remember your smile. I cherish that I got to see you that night. And I cherish every moment you have given to me over the past few years.

I miss you Nick-not just on Tuesdays-but every day.

Fiona
