Today, as Chief of Police for CSX Transportation, I am honored to submit the formal application to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC so that your sacrifice can be remembered and honored forever.

This is a testament to you and to all law enforcement officers. I am very proud of the good work that is being done every day and may we never forget our fallen heroes.

It has been 88 years since your death. For 27 years I patrolled the same track and the same area where your tour of duty ended. Your memory and the events surrounding your passing have not and will not be forgotten. Your assailant atoned for your death by being hanged by the neck until dead, him being the last criminal in Georgia to pay the penalty in this manner. May you rest peacefully.

Steven T. Purvis, Supr. Special Agent
CSX Railroad Police Department

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 88th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace

Officer Gunn, you were murdered protecting a railroad, without which this country would not have grown and prospered as well as it did. Your life was taken needlessly and tragically and after all these years, the loss is still sad and we, your extended family, mourn.

God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.
