I met Seneca when i got accepted at Norfolk Police Department in March of 2003. We were in the same academy class. I noticed he was quite and not taking breaks with the class. So on one of the breaks I went up to his seat facing him and said I'm Swenson, what's up you dont want to talk to anyone? He smiled and said I am trying to stay out of trouble. I shut his notebook with a smile and said you gonna take a break cause I am gonna walk up here and get you. We smiled and we've been like brother and sister ever since that day. We loved to joke and laugh til we cried. He loved his daughter who is a sweety. She was so lucky to have such a loving father. He was great and kind. He was a young man who was mature and established alot for his age and I admired him for that. I loved him dearly and he will be missed.

Through the years I have had the honor and pleasure to work with men and women who have amazed me with their phenomenal acts of bravery. When other ran away, they charged forward. When others reached out for safety, they offered a helping hand. When others cried out, they responded with a soothing voice.
Tragically, a number of them died...but in doing so they have taught all of us how to live.

With their service and sacrifices they have defined the word “HERO”

Seneca, this is a very unexpected situation to deal with. We've known each other since middle school since the earlier 1990's. I enjoyed all the good times we spent together playing sports, or just talking among friends. You always extended your helping hands to anyone that needed it. I'll never forget the great person that you were here on God's earth. Brin, Mariah, Roaxanne, and every individual that hurts from your lost will be in my prayers.

Your true friend,

Rod

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Darden, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the news reports and all the reflections left for Seneca, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Seneca's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Seneca's life was about so much more than the way he died. Seneca will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Darden, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

My deepest sympathy to Officer Seneca Darden and his entire family. Another young successful life has been lost but definitely not forgotten. May the angels continue to sing as you find peace in Eternal Rest. God makes no mistakes. You are indeed a Hero. To his young daughter and wife.. May God continue to bless you all, and give you the strength to make it through while you mourn the lost of a very fine young man, who I'm sure made a difference and touched a lot of lives. May the angels continue to wrap their wings around you and comfort you in this great time of need. He is my Brother in Blue. I will always keep him close to my heart and you in my prayers. Rest in Peace Seneca you will always be loved. Your Blewangel in Jersey.

I salute my fallen brother. I grieve with his family. I feel the loss as his department does. I pray for his loved ones, left without a husband, a father, a son. I'm proud of his ultimate sacrifice, given not willingly, yet given in a manner that only those of us who choose this profession can understand. None of us hope we go in the line of duty, yet daily we propel ourselves into situations in which this may easily happen. May God bless you Officer Darden, for choosing to be one of the selfless few, to put others before you, before your family, for a set of principles, a code of honor, that we all choose to live by in our own way. Carry on Norfolk P.D. It's what we do. Honor our fallen comrade by donning that uniform proudly, and serve what it stands for in his honor.
