Your gallant effort on that fateful day will always be remembered. You fought the good fight on the streets and in the hospital. God,in his own way, is rewarding those who gave of themselves like he did, by calling them home.
The streets you will walk on nope are paved with gold and there's several officers waiting to show you around the place. Deepest sympathies to your family and the brothers and sisters of FCPD.

To the Garbarino family,
My you find peace in your memories and comfort in your thoughts. My prayers and those of so many, feel as if they are unanswered as my husbadn told me the news this morning. I have to take faith, and listen to the words I heard from Vicky in her own voice, and believe that God had a better plan. He needed you to walk the thin blue line in Heaven with the Angels.
To the FCPD Family,
God Speed, and find peace some how. Do not allow the guilt, pain and anger consume you, rise above and find some good and allow more good to grow out of this horrible situation.

I am so angry right now, that this happened, and want to string those who did this, those who had the ability to stop this, the parents of the monster, up and make them feel the pain that is being felt accross this great county again.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew MPO Garbarino, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Then the rainstorm came, over me
And I felt my spirit break
I had lost all of my, belief you see
And realized my mistake
But time through a prayer, to me
And all around me became still

I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Through the rainstorm came sanctuary
And I felt my spirit fly
I had found all of my reality
I realize what it takes

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Well I try to say there's nothing wrong
But inside I felt me lying all along
But the message here was plain to see
Believe me

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Love can help me know my name.

Mike, it is with great and overwhelming sadness that I feel after finding out that during the night you passed away. We did so much together through the years; we answered so many calls together, saw much sadness together and we laughed together.

You cared deeply about the Fairfax County Police Department and our brothers & sisters. I will always remember you with your infectious smile and a way about you that just made people laugh.

This loss is such a tremendous loss not only to your family at home and the Police Department but to Mankind. You truly were a person I enjoyed to be with and work cases together. I will miss you Mike.

In your honor, I dedicate this poem that I found years ago, I have always loved it and now it will always have a special meaning for me.

With my deepest respect for you, I am

My Father’s Badge

In boyhood days I used to feel,
That gold and silver shield,
And heavy it felt in my little hand,
That was my Father’s badge.

The teenage years were wild times,
Running forward though half blind,
Always he was there to guide my path,
That was my Father’s badge.

As a man, I stood at his side,
He would teach and sometimes chide,
Duty, Honor and more he had,
That was my Father’s badge.

Along his graveside I did kneel,
Through the air, solemn Taps did peal,
“And I’ll cherish your symbol of service , Dad”
That was my Father’s badge.

Perhaps someday if I have a son,
And if he’s asked what his father had done,
He’ll say with prideful eyes so glad,
That was my Father’s badge.

MPO Garbarino, I just heard the news and am deeply saddened. I heard you on the radio that horrible day, praying for forgiveness as the shooting was unfolding, and would have given anything to be there with you, protecting you. Your fellow officer's acted bravely to get to you and Det. Armel. I prayed for you that day and now, pray for your family, knowing God will protect and comfort them.

This police brotherhood will be here to comfort them, and each other, for as long as it takes. Heaven is a better place to have gained you, but this world is a much more somber place to have lost you. God speed brother...

I was so sorry to hear about your passing this morning. Fairfax was devastated enough after losing Detective Armel, but now we are down two guardians because of a senseless act of violence. Thank you or protecting our county for 20+ years. Please know that your loss will surely be mourned by those who knew you and those who did not alike.

We will keep you and your family in our thoughts.

MPO Garbarino-

This morning my wife called me as she commuted to work to tell me she saw a van being escorted down Braddock Road, towards the Medical Examiner's Office, by Fairfax County motor officers. Neither of us had yet heard the news of your passing. I was extremely saddened minutes later when she called back to tell me that the media was reporting you had passed away.

You and Detective Armel are true heroes. For 23 years you have kept my county safe. It is only because of the professionalism of you and the other 1,300+ officers on the Fairfax County force that we have been spared the numbers of line of duty deaths of neighboring counties and cities.

Prior to May 8th, Fairfax County had gone 101 years, 1 month, and 1 day since the only other Fairfax County lawman had been shot and killed in the line of duty. I pray that it never happens again. I am reassured to know that you, Detective Vicky Armel, and Deputy George Malcolm (d. April 7, 1905), are continuing your watch of Fairfax County from the streets of heaven.

I will keep your family and fellow officers in my prayers now and always.

Sincerely,
-Chris Cosgriff
