Reflections for Master Police Officer Michael E. Garbarino

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Garbarino family and the entire Fairfax County Police Dept. This is such a senseless and tragic loss that the entire law enforcement and corrections community is experiencing. We have lost another brave brother in blue, but in I know that MPO Garbarino is patrolling the streets of heaven, MPO Garbarino was the true definition of a hero that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Heaven has called another hero to come across the Thin Blue Line

How horrific to have this occur in a law enforcement facility grounds without warning. I am deeply saddened and repulsed by this ghastly assasination of such a fine, veteran officer, falling to an ambush by a cowardly maddog killer.

My Grandfather was one of the first six county policemen hired by Fairfax County in 1940, so this hits home to a 10th-generation Fairfax Countian.

My prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues and the people of Fairfax County. This brave soldier in blue now stands watch with St. Michael's platoon on Heaven's beat. Rest easy brother we have it from here. Be safe out there brothers and sisters.

I'll never forget the way the room erupted in laughter the first time we met at the academy. People said we looked like father and son!! It carried on everyday when we rode together on daywork in Mclean. I'm so fortunate to still carry the things you taught me. Every time I get out of the cruiser, reach down to switch on my radio it's your voice I hear reminding me. Mike, there's a big part of you still hitting the street everyday I sign on, and I'm only one of the many you touched. I will never forget you. We will never forget you.

To the Garbarino family and the F.C.P.D. my thoughts and prayers are with you

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the dimond glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quite birds in circling flight
I am the soft starlight at night

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

I am the song that will never end
I am the love of family and friends
I am the child who has come to rest
In the loving arms of the Father
who knows me best

When you see the sunset fair
I am the scented evening air
I am the joy of a task well done
I am the glow of the setting sun

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

To my friend and brother

I left the station on May 8, 2006 at 3:15pm. I saw you in the hall and said good-bye have a safe night and enjoy your vacation. I still can not believe these were the last words I spoke to you. You always had a kind word and helping hand for everyone around you. It seems like yesterday when we both transfered from Mclean to Sully. Now I wish you stayed in Mclean.

I know you are safe now sitting at the right hand of our lord, watching over the rest of us, as you did every day on the street. I will miss you Mike, you were a good officer always watching out for the citizens never having a cross word about them. You are my friend you are a hero you will never be forgotten. Your family will never be forgotten, we will watch out for them now that you can not.

Your Friend

Even though I never met you, I have met and known many of the Fairfax County Officers, I am the surviving spouse of Officer Emilio Miyares, whom like you was killed in line of duty. I have been attending National Police Week since my husband's death in 1986, for many years your dept. have been scorts for our survivor's buses and have welcome our "COPS KIDS" to your academy, this year as always they were there and open the doors to our kids once again, but it was different it was the date of Vicky's funeral service and we all felt for you guys and we all thought that you were going to be ok. I had the Honor of attending Vicky's vigil on wed may 10th, and visit your station, and as I read in one of your reflections that "thin blue line" was not thin on that day and during our week in DC for NPW, we all pray for your recovery and for Vicky's family. You paid the supreme sacrifise and we Honor and thank you for it. You are gone but you can be sure that your family and friends are not alone, as we the survivors (COPS) will be here for them as your dept. have always been here for us.

thank you and God Bless you

Mike, I so wanted to be with you on your last ride. However, it was not to be. I want to thank you for being my friend. Since moving away I missed our talks. You always had a way of putting a smile on my face. I along with so many others had hoped that as each day passed you were getting better. This also was not to be. You are no longer in pain my friend. May God hold you and your family close to Him. This is not the end of our friendship, for sooner or later I know that we will sit and talk again.

To the families,
I sit in awe of what you must be going through. As I watch my husband put on his uniform, I notice his badge with the black srtipe upon it. We both just can't help but look at it and think of what a loss it has been this past week. You will never be forgotten. My husband enjoyed working out with you while he was in the accademy and even after. He was vey saddened to find out that it was you. Or I should say he was in shock. To have lost a friend, I think he still is shocked somedays. At your funeral, he was so proud to have known you, even if only for a short time.

I sit trying to explain to my children how someone could hate a police officer the way society does. And how people like you and their Daddy still want to protect and save them, even though they don't want you too. I look the people all around and all the love that has been given in your honor. I pray your children will come to understand what a wonderful, courageous, loving husband, father, and police officer you were.

You will never be forgotten.
