Reflections for Trooper Eduardo Chavez

Chavez,
It's been a while since you left to be with our lord. I know that you are watching over us. Both of your brothers are doing great. Enrique is out in Rio Grande your old stomping grounds taking care of business. And German, he reminds me a lot of you. German's a hard worker and one of the best Troopers i've seen. Chavez, It was a pleasure brother.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

Well Eddie, its been another year. I am ashamed to admit it, but I was traveling yesterday and didn't realize the date. Does this mean that I'm healing now? I don't ever want to forget the date, but the fact that I didn't remember it ahead of time has to mean that the hurting isn't as bad as it once was. I sure as heck still miss you.

I met Chris Cosgriff today, the founder of this website. I personally thanked him for all he has done to preserve your memory, and the memory of those we've lose before and after you. I was proud to shake his hand when I told him a simple, "thanks". I'm sure you would do the same.

Well, keep watching over us buddy. We'll talk again someday. In the mean time, keep checking for messages here. Love ya' buddy.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the third anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Remember.........always!
Today your family, friends, and brothers/sisters in "blue" are in our prayers!

Watch over us all who continue to fight the good fight. May we honor each officer who has gone before with our actions! And above all, may we each day remember those upon whose shoulders we stand to complete our daily work!
Always..........remember!

Hey Buddy,

Went to Austin last week to see German's graduation ceremonies. You would have been damned proud of him. It was very cool to see Henry hand him his credentials. He's going to be a fine Trooper. Hopefully he'll get back to Palmview after a bit. Someone needs to take your spot.

There's no mistaking the fact that little Edward is your son. He looks just like you. He even seems to have your personality! I hope I'll become his friend as he grows so I can help tell him all about his Daddy! Of course, I'd rather you be here to show him yourself, but I guess we can't have that.

Take care my friend...I'll keep checking by every now and then.

I remember when I first started at the old SO. Chavez would walk by shake hands with me and say "whats up?" Ed never faild to bring a smile to everyone he met. It was his nature. I was very happy that Ed became a Trooper. We would eat at 5 & Minnesota and talk about the old days. My friend your memory will live on in our hearts. One day, we will all get together and talk like we did on the west side.
