Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Eduardo Chavez

EDWARD,
I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR ME. YOU WERE ALWAYS THERE FOR ME AND WE DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER. I REMEBER THE DAY YOU TOLD ME THAT YOU WANTED TO ATTEND THE POLICE ACADEMY AND WELL YOU KNOW ME I FOLLOWED YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO. NEATLESS TO SAY THAT WE BOTH GRADUATE THE POLICE ACADEMY AND STARTED TO TO WORK TOGETHER. THERE IS NOT A DAY THAT GOES BY THAT YOU ARE NOT IN MY DREAMS. I MISS YOU SO YOU CUZ YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I MISS YOU. WELL I KNOW THAT YOU ARE UP THERE IN HEAVEN LOOKING OUT FOR US . I PROMISE THAT I WILL TAKE CARE OF ILIANA AND LITTLE EDDIE AS WELL AS LITTLE G AND THE REST OF OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT FAMILY. I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO OPEN THOSE GATES OF HEAVEN AND AWAIT FOR ME WHEN MY TIME IS UP.
I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU, YOUR COUSIN KIKE.

Edward,
I hope I have a job I look forward to each morning the way you did yours.
I hope to meet and fall in love with someone one day the way you did with Iliana.
I hope I have the opportunity to feel that excitement in having a child the way you were excited.
I hope that when I leave, there aren't enough pews to sit all those there to pay their condolences the way there weren't enough for you.
I hope I can look back and KNOW there isn't anything I would change, if I could, just the way I know you're feeling.
I hope I get the opportunity to live half the life you lived.
You lived the life many can only dream to live.
My parents had the opportunity to share 30 wonderful years with you. I had the opportunity to share 21 of those precious years. Iliana had the opportunity to share over 10 years. And I know that baby will have you by his side for the rest of his life.

We love you and miss you each day. Your jokes, your smile, your hugs--it's all missed. And I cannot wait until the day I see you again, the day when you squeeze me so hard I have to catch my breath, the day I get to hear you call me 'fifi'!

I was thinking of Ed today. For some reason I remembered his smile and the slap on my back when he said hello in Rio Grande City when we were assigned to a Task Force. Ed always the smiling and friendly person. A wonderful person. His brothers share the same personality. Ed is missed!

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper Chavez, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading all the reflections left for Eduardo, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Eduardo's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Eduardo's life was about so much more than the way he died. Eduardo will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Trooper Chavez, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

A Letter From Heaven

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say;
But first of all to let you know, that I arrived OK.

I'm writing this from Heaven where I dwell with God above;
Here there's no more tears of sadness, only eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy because I'm out of sight;
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon, and night.

That day I had to leave you, when my life on earth was through; God picked me up and hugged me, and He said, "I welcome you". He reunited me with others there who I had loved on Earth, many who had loved me since the time of my birth.

"It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone. As for your beloved family, they'll be here later on. I need you here so badly, you are a part of my plan. There is so much that we can do, to help our mortal man".

God gave me a list of things that He wished for me to do; And foremost on the list was to watch and care for all of you.

When you lie in bed at night with the day's chores put to flight; God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth and all those loving years; Because you are only human, they are going to bring you tears.

Do not be afraid to cry, it helps relieve the pain. Remember as some poet said, "There would be no flowers without the rain".

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned, but if I were to tell you, you would not understand.

But, one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er; I am closer to you NOW, than I ever was before.

There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT by taking one day at a time.

If you can help somebody who is in sorrow and in pain; Then you can say to God at night... "My day was not in vain".

And now I am content... that my life was worthwhile; knowing as I passed along the way, I made you and others smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low; Just lend a hand to pick them up as on your way you go.

When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to leave... from Earth to be free; Remember you're not leaving... You're coming here to me.

Hey Primo,
I will always have you in my prayers, and I just wanted to thank you for everything. Hey Ed,
Man it seems like just yesterday I was an explorer for the Sheriffs department and you would always make me feel like I had a place in the department by enthusiastically inviting me to ride along with you to "go look for some action". I thank you man for all the experience you gave me back then leading me to become a dispatcher for the sheriffs office and now a Medic and I'm about to go to the academy. It seems unreal that you are no longer with us in body, but I know you are watching over us from the greatest law enforcement agency of all. Take care man and I'll be praying for Iliana, Edward jr., German, Henry, and the rest of your family. See you Later man. "Put in a good word for me with the Big Man"

Our hearts are sad at the loss of this fine Trooper who died a hero, GIVING his life, rolling to assist a fellow officer -- who just happened to be his own blood brother (although you are ALL brothers in blue)(even though Trooper
Chavez wore tan) Heaven has gained a new angel and he will watch over his family AND his department from on high.

Troopers: take care of his family and bring that baby up knowing what a hero Daddy was!! Keep your heads high and your attention focused on your duty, your safety and remembering your brother officer.
