Reflections for Police Officer James Clark Beyea

I read about you Officer Beyea in a book. I thought of my own son, 22 years old and living his dream to be a law enforcement officer. I think of your mother, father, the devastation of your friends and family. God bless them all and you are remembered as a hero.

Class of 10/87, I will never forget you Beyea, we shared some good memories. I knew something was wrong, all night I could not sleep. The next day the watch commander informed me of what happened and I was lost for words, It was like a bad dream. I cried for days and the class wanted to quit we were all devastated to say the least. You are loved and you will never be forgotten. I will always cherish the last conversation we had, it means so much too me. You are the best.

Jimmy grew up with us, we lived in the same apt building 18 years, he was alittle older than my son but they hung out together as they grew up, jim and I were very attached, I mentored him for years as he grew up, he was my foster son so to speak, we discussed all of his ambitions, security guard, national guard, Lapd, all the options, all the talks you would have with a son, when he turned 21 he would always come over to my apt and we would drink corona's and watch tv, He was always over when he wasn't working. His girlfriend Cindy also grew with us as their relationship grew,we talked like father and son, he was a good kid! We loved him Very much. Not a day goes by we dont think of him, my mom and him are buried just fee apart, I always visit him with a Corona. I am part of the LAPD Family, I talked with all of his fellow officers thru-out his buriel process and after party, you all were very frank with me, I was in the lead car with his mom and cindy in the procession, It was a great LAPD memorial. Some of you may remember me. Jimmy was a good boy, I was Very proud of Him!!! RIP my Son!! [email protected] Bill Rogers

James, I only saw you briefly, a few times in the hallways of the "old " North Hollywood Station.

I was assigned to North Hollywood Homicide Detectives and found out about your murder when I was called to assist.

Your passing comes to mind every once in a while. I believe that as long as a person is on someone's mind, that person is immortal.

You, my brother, will never die.

Curious how certain people are forever in your thoughts. I went to middle school with James. We shared a few classes and hung out. He was one of the most mature kids in the school. He had a serious side to him most kids didn't posses.

My father was a cop in Culver City at the time and persuaded me to find a different line of work. Though I did, my career is far less important than a Police officers. Thank you for your service James, your memory is forever alive.

School mate and friend.

Rest In Peace Brother in Blue. You are honored and remembered on the 30th anniversary of your EOW.

Jim, unfortunately it's getting close to an anniversary I wish we never had to think about. Please know that your sacrifice did make a difference and an impact on countless others. That was a night I never want to remember but I always do and like Fred said it's what kept me safe. Thanks for having my 6 all these years brother!

Also, I want to let you know that I created a memorial bracelet in your honor shortly after your death. Other than when I worked undercover, I wore that bracelet every single day until recently when it just fell off my wrist. I was pretty bummed so I located a company doing memorial bracelets and had another one created. I emailed 10-87 to let everyone know in case they wanted one too. I wish I had your families information in case they want one too. Hopefully, someone will see this and place them in touch with me, [email protected]. I'd love to hear from them and know they are doing ok.

Peace and Prayers...

James, Its been many years, since we did our probation together at North Hollywood (station on Tiara Avenue). I remember speaking to you about a month before you were killed regarding the new 9mm Beretta school that I had just attended. You were so interested in the details of the school. I was amazed at how much more motivated you were in looking forward to going to the school than I had been. Although, I did not get the opportunity to talk to you more often, I could tell that you definitely would have made a positive contribution to the LAPD. Rest in peace, Jim.

Hey Jimmy, Just came from the dedication ceremony for your memorial walk in West Valley Division. John Morena, Marco Munoz, and myself were there. It was a very nice turn out with the Council People, LAPD brass, Citizens, uniformed Officers from North Hollywood and other LAPD divisions. There was an Officer from Oakland PD there! Got to see and talk with your Mom. She looks great. Talked with Walt Hanna for a bit. He really worked hard on this project and it looks GREAT. I know you were there with us on this special day and will be forever in our hearts. Take Care...My brother...Thanks for watching our backs...10/87!!!

He was my line leader in the academy.. He was the man we all aspired to be. Jim, I know we lost contact with a lot of our soul mates from the academy but losing you, Van and our class DI Kent Carter really makes me wish we were back to 1987 and the Whittier earthquake... Much love my LAPD brother....

Its been decades and James has never left my mind. I just found this page and I have no idea why I was here. James was my classmate and friend. We studied together, laughed together and chased the ladies together. I miss him then and today...............

He would of been an amazing officer had he been with us today. Why do we as a society allow scum bag gangs to exist?

Today you would have turned 48. I think of you every day and have to wonder how different life would be if you were still here. We were so close as kids only being a month apart. You were more like my brother then cousin. I still miss you.

Jim and I served in the Air Nat'l Guard together in Van Nuys. I was a rookie officer with Torrance PD and James was looking to get hired by LAPD. We talked about the job and I knew Jimmy would be a great cop. I was devastated to hear he was killed by some burgary suspect and even more saddened that the LA Times would print the suspects little league picture next to Officer Beyea's department photo, as if there were any similarities to them. James was a hero and made a difference in the lives of those who knew him. He would have gone far with LAPD and was an inspiration in the short time he worked there. I'm sorry we didnt' get the chance to work together and share war stories my friend. I kept your department photo posted in my locker for over 21 years and thought of you every day I put on the uniform. God bless you and rest in peace.

Sgt.Steve Bock
Torrance PD, retired.

Officer Beyea - "None of the ransomed ever knew, how deep were the waters crossed." Your death, no doubt, saved cop's lives. Improved foot pursuit training was implemented, afterwards, and L.A. cops did their jobs safer. I'm about a thousand miles away from Los Angeles, and I've seen the circumstances which lead to your death repeated. You were on my mind as I heard two officers split up during a foot pursuit with their sergeant seemingly unconcerned. James, there's more work to be done. I will do it in your memory.

May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.
