Scott, you were a true friend since the academy and certainly a "Cops-Cop" maintaining the course since day one. To those that are learning about Scott, on one hand I am sure he would take this day back a million times over, but for those of us that knew him, if he had to go on at this young age, this is how he would have insisted on going. He was a truly brave and dedicated Officer and deserves the utmost respect a police officer can get. God bless you Brother, miss you deeply already. Macomb Class 4/87.

His final actions show just what kind of a chief this man was. He supported his men and obviously did whatever he could to assist them. Now because of another dirt bag on the street, a wife and children have no father. Rest in peace sir...

My most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Chief Sumner. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To his wife: I share your agony. I lost my husband in the line of duty in March of last year and am left to raise 2 young children on my own. This is a very painful journey that none of us expected - or wanted - to take. I have found comfort in knowing that we do not walk this path alone but with many others who have endured similar losses. I hope that eventually you will find comfort as well. The first few days, weeks and months are so painfully difficult - just try to take one day at a time. Do the best you can. Let others hold you up when you can't stand on your own. Though you may not believe it right now - you will get through this. You are the wife of a police officer; you have strength and courage that will sustain you and your children. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you, Chief Sumner, for you service and ultimate sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in eternal peace, forever safe in the arms of the angels.

Chief,

I met you a year ago on a funeral detail regarding a soldier from your area. You and another Motor Officer came to Metro Airport and Sgt. Michalski and I assisted you by providing an Motor escort for you and the soldiers detail.

I was saddened when I learned of the accident, and was shocked when Sgt. Michalski reminded me that we had all met. It was an honor to have met and momentarily worked with you.

Our Unit passed through your town on Friday. It was sad to see all of the Flags lowered and how quiet it was.

God bless your family and the community of Chelsea. We share your pain and know what your feeling. It's been over a year since we lost Sgt. Scarbrough, they say time heals all wounds except that of the heart and mind.

Again, I am sorry to hear about your passing Sir.
