Reflections for Detective James Zadroga

Your heroism and service is honored today, the third anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

To James' parents, I share your anquish in losing a beloved son. Losing a child is surely life's greatest sorrow and I understand the meaning of lives forever altered. I am glad that you have the blessing of Tyler. You are all in my prayers.

Rest In Peace, James.

Today is your 4th anniversary in heaven. It hurts so much that you are gone. It seems like it just happened, I can't believe it's 4 year already. The only thing that gets me through are the memories of you. Your personality, your practical jokes, your hardy laugh, and how much you loved your family. Especially your little girl itty bitty one. The people you met during your short life, and your friends, especially Billy (Red) he still calls. Oh how I wish you didn't go back that day, but I know you and you had to. Because that was you. Gone but not forgotten. I Miss you so much. Love Mommy

Well baby another Christmas passed without you, it's not getting easier if fact it's getting harder. We went to Joe's for Christmas Tyler Ann got alot of presents from Santa but she said the one thing she didn't get that she asked for was you. She really hurts around the holidays more than ususal. Christmas eve we went to Aunt Paula's she had a good time playing with Zoey and she got gifts from everyone over there she was happy. But you could see the sadness in her. Her and Dakota get along so well, and Joe and Lisa could not love her anymore than if she were her daughter, your brother takes good care of her when she goes there so does Lisa, they pay alot of attention to her. She just eats it up. Well we miss you very much, but the way you suffered we know you are in a better place even thought we cannot come to that reality.

Well baby tommorrow is Thanksgiving it's our 4th year without you even thought your only dead 3 your died in January. We are all okay, getting along the best we could
Tyler Ann is doing really well in the second grade she's in leep which is for gifted children. You would be so proud of her. She looks like you. Well we try to go on with our lives, but it's hard and especially with Tyler Ann because she misses you so. She cries and our hearts break for her. She gets really upset when the children in school say they went somewhere with their parents, and she doesn't have any. She keeps asking why did this have to happen to her. Well I have nothing to be thankful for. But on the other hand I do I have Tyler Ann and she keeps daddy and I going. We love you. Keep watching your girl from up above and help guide her. Rest in peace. May you and Ronda have a happy thanksgiving with the rest of our family. My baby boy. Mom

She's doing very well in school her and I butt heads but we always did to. She looks like you. We finally moved upstairs in your room it only took me over a little over three years but I did it. We all love you and miss you but you are always with us. I love you so much my and miss you so much. Tyler Ann misses you terribly. Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

Hi Baby well they put your name on the wall in Battery Park Tuesday, and on 10/21 they are giving out special medals for 911 victims. Tyler Ann will be receiving yours. The last couple of nights she has been having a really hard time. But I told her you are always watching over her, and so is her mom, peewee, gee gee, wee wee. They also named the soccer field after you in North Arlington it's catty corner from your grave. Josephine came, you finally got your honor guard from the city, a singer, and a bag piper. You didn't get it for your funeral but you got it for the soccerr field. I miss you so much as does daddy and tyler ann some days I don't know how I make it through the day if it wasn't for that little girl I don't think I would. Gone but defenitely not forgotten. Love you Mom, Dad & most of all Tyler Ann

Well Jim they have a bill waiting to be passed in your name for all the workers who were not covered under your previous bill we are hoping it will be passed soon for all the construction workers and all the others who are not getting any help. The first bill helped the police and fire surviors which helped your itty bitty and others hopefully this one will be passed to help all the others that are sick and just like you losing their houses, can't put food on their tables, and losing their cars, and can't get the right medicines and medical care. I hope this bill is past I'm asking for your help my dear baby boy to help this bill get passed. Love you mom, dad, and itty bitty. Always on our minds, in our hearts, and with us in whatever we do. Gone but defenitely not forgotten.

Rest In Peace Jimmy. Although I did not know you I am sure you were a great cop, father, son and friend. We will continue on to make sure that the city takes care of all of us who tirelessly sifted through debris at Ground Zero and the SI landfill. They lied to us and they know it, but we know the truth. To the Zadroga family, I am sure I don't have to tell you this but the NYPD will always be here for you. Gone but not forgotten....

Well Jimmy they put your name on the wall in 1 police plaza, and they are going to put in Washington DC.

Today is mother's day Tyler Ann gave me a spider plant she made in school, and made me a card. I know I have another son, but I just miss you so much especially today on mother's day. It is just so unfair. I feel sorry for poor Tyler Ann. But we are doing the best for her. She got her report card and got all O for outstanding, and in her national testing in verbal skills she came out in the 96% in the national average and non verbal 99%. She sure is different then you she loves school, only she did get your brains, and your brothers, she certainly didn't get mine or your in laws. I know you and Ronda are looking down on her and watching over her, she tells us she sees you once in awhile. I believe her I think she's like Ronda she can see the future and the past. Well baby I love you and always will. Next Saturday their having a 5K run and John Feal he was a construction worker who lost part of his foot in 9/11 is going to walk wearing your name. We are doing this for Tyler Ann so that she doesn't believe all this other stuff and knows as does everyon that you are a hero. Gone but defenitely not forgetten.

Well baby boy Tyler Ann got her report card today and I know you would be so proud of her. She got 2 outstandings in reading and math and all the rest were s the teacher says she is way ahead of everyone. But it's no surprise to me she is taking after you. I miss you so much. She does too. Daddy is really bad. It's been two years and it seems like it was just yesterday, we just can't seem to get on with our lives. We just miss you so much. But I know one day we will see you again. Oh yeah they are putting your name on the wall in Washington and giving you a medal, and also at 1 police plaza, and also giving you a medal out of five officers that died you are the only one getting this. Your name will also be on the wall in Albany, and somwhere else in NY. It doesn't make you come back to us but Tyler Ann feels better because she knows that you were a hero. She went ice skating last week with the police she had a really good time the police officers took her and skated with her she was all excited because we tell her that they are all your friends. well my baby boy I love you and I will take good care of your daughter, but I don't have to tell you that you know that. Love you baby boy. love from your daughter, dad, brother, sister-in law niece and me.

Well my baby boy you now turned 37 years oldjTyler Ann insisted we have a birthday cake for you so I took her to the supermaket and she picked out an all chocklate cake for you because she knows that you really liked that.  We had happy birthday Dada written on it and she picked out your candles a 3 & 7 then I realized that we could use the seven for her she was so excited then next year we could use the 8 for me.  She made us sing happy birthday cut the first piece and put it in your place at the table and this one is for Dada.  It just made me cry.  Daddy went to NY to collect money for the other 9/11 responders on your birthday in your name he knew you would want that.  Well that's how we celebrated your birthday.  I know you know how we celebrated it because I know you are always here with us and especially your baby girl.  God does she miss you and love you.   So does daddy and I.  We miss you baby  boy.  One day we will all be together again.love ya happy 37th birthday February 16 in heaven.  Keep a watch over Tyler Ann.

Well Jim it's two years already on January 5th I just could not get to write to you. I thought it would get easier but it gets harder. Tyler Ann was happy at Christmas but you can tell she really missed you. It only seems like you were here with us yesterday and when you think about it is already two years. We all miss you so much you were our baby and such a good son. You were always so giving, a good husband, and a very good father. Even when you were sick and couldn't get out of bed you still managed to play with Tyler Ann. We son we think of you every day and miss you more and more. You may be gone but you defenetily are not forgotten, and never will be. Nothing is the same without you the holidays,or even just regular days. Tyler Ann looks so much like you which in makes me and daddy miss you more. But at least we have her she keeps us going. Love you baby boy and miss you Mom, Dad, and of course your daughter DaDa as she called you Tyler Ann. Rest in peace our baby boy and DaDa

Detective Zadroga,
Thank-you for your service on that terrible day. You were truely a hero to do what you did. You gave your life while in the service of your fellow being. It will never be forgotten.
As I have read your reflections, it makes me sad that your little girl has to grow up without you here physically.
Thank heavens that she has your parents. May god bless them.
Tyler Ann, Your daddy is a hero. He will always be watching over you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
