Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Pierre Walter Bain

Dearest Orville and Germaine,
I was stunned to hear about your precious son Pierre. I never met him, but you always spoke of him during our visits. You are rightfully proud parents. You and Pierre's family are in our prayers. I recall hearing of the tragic death of a fellow officer in Lancaster, as well as the CHP officer in Bakersfield, but not knowing Pierre personally, it never occurred to me that he was your son. Had I known, nothing could have kept me from attending his funeral. Please forgive me for not being there. Please, let's get together soon.

Pierre, rest in peace brother. And if it's in your power, watch over the rest of us who are still on our beat.

Mammoth Lakes Police Department

I was shocked today when Germaine and Orville called and told me of Pierre's death. I was in Florida the end of March and had not heard the news. Pierre and his beautiful family were so highly loved and admired by his family and friends. Your life was cut short, Pierre, but you truly made your Mark on this world. May God Bless your family and friends as they cope with their loss.
Love, Barbara Barton

Officer Bain was a good man. I still remember when he worked at the sub station that i was interning for. He would answer all my questions about law enforcement and its because of officers like him that i will be working towards a career in law enforcement. You will not be forgotten sir!

When I learned what had happened it was as if a stake had been driven through my chest. I remember well the days we worked together at the "Ranch", your first assignment after your graduation from the Academy. Although I've been retired for 12 years you are one of those people I could never forget. Your pleasant personality and great sense of humor endeared you to all that came in contact with you. You and my son were Academy classmates and are fellow Motor Officers. He has told me of the many times you trained together on Motor training days. He is also taking your passing with a great deal of pain.

Words cannot express my grief. The world is now a very sad place without you. Where ever you are now, some how I hope you know the positive impact you had on so many lives.

May God protect your family and give them comfort.

It breaks our hearts to read of another officer's tragic death. My husband, Patrolman Clifton T. Miller, died on duty in a car accident on May 14, 1966. To Pierre's family: we who suffered a line-of-duty death so long ago can tell you that you will persevere and be OK. There will be times when you will barely be able to function, times filled with laughter and fond memories, times you will feel Pierre's presence with you. Our support and love goes out to you.

My family and myself would like to send our condolences to the family. I have only briefly meet Pierre once or twice at the dog shows with Diana. But I know the family though Diana and know they were a happy, loving family. Pierre was a great husband and partner with the Collies.

Diana you have been in my prayers since I heard the news. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please know my family is thinking of you and supports you in your time of need.

Pierre is in a happy place and is there watching you. He is frolicking with your Collie friends above. He will always be there supporting you in spirit.

Best Wishes,
Teri Walsh (Silverlake Collies) and

Diana, my deepest condolences are sent to you and Pierre's family. It is so difficult for us to understand when a loved one is taken so suddenly and so young, but God knows the "bigger plan" and has you and the girls in his heart. Know that your friends in collies were saddened and grieve with you and keep you and Pierre's family in our prayers. May God, your friends and family and all your memories comfort you in this difficult time. Kathie Bazzell

Pierre, I still remember watching you gently put a wounded pigeon out of it's misery in the station parking lot. Even though you were an avid hunter and tuff outdoorsman, you told me you didn't like seeing it suffer unnecessarily. You were just an all around good guy. I only wish you could have came dirt bike riding with the "Diablos". You could have taught us all a thing or two. You will been truly missed my friend.
