Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joseph Tim Whitehead, Jr.

Joe, words alone will never express the impact that you have made on our lives. With total committment, passion and courage you served the citizens of Bibb County.
You could have chosen any career and excelled, but you chose Law Enforcement and you are a true example of a great Officer. You will Always be remembered and will always have a special place in our hearts. To have worked with you was a pleasure, you were never just a co-worker. You are a part of our FAMILY.

You have left behind a legacy that makes me feel so incredibly privileged to have been a small part of your life. Your dedication to every assignment, your laugh and your smile, will be forever in our hearts….

Joe, you will never be forgotten.

To Joe’s family, words alone will never erase the pain and suffering you are feeling at this time. But please know that everyone that he touched in some small way, will be forever changed by just knowing him. He made a difference in our lives and it has been a true honor to call him our friend and brother.

The day I met Joe I was a rookie with the Macon Police Dept. I got a call to help Bibb Co Drug Unit in serving a search warrant. I pulled up and there was a serious looking guy standing off to the side. After the warrant was served and the house was cleared we all relaxed a little. I taled to Joe for a few minutes and in that brief time I could see how special he was. We saw each other off and on for the next 6 years and every time I saw him we would talk and laugh. I went home after I found out that one of the finest men I have ever met was taken away from us and cried. Joe it was my honor to call you my friend. GOD BLESS YOU MY BROTHER YOU WILL BE MISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To have known Investigator Joseph Whitehead would have been a blessing to any person. He presented himself to everyone as a person who had the time to listen to what you had to say. If you ask him to look into a problem or make contact with someone, you knew after telling him you could check that task off as complete, Investigator Joseph Whitehead was already on it.
When you were in his present watching him interact with people you could feel in his words and his gestures that he was true to all his beliefs about making this sometimes cold world a warm and pleasant place for all. One of his favorite saying were “they’re going to go to jail when I get caught up on my paperwork”. If you knew Investigator Joseph Whitehead it meant he has just open up another case and if he got caught up with all his other cases it was that day, if not that day for sure the next day.
If you knew him as a family man you could see that the most important thing to him was his wife and kids happiness. He loved the work he was doing but only with the blessing from his wife and his spiritual beliefs. His spiritual beliefs wife and kids were the sails that navigated his vessel through life here on earth. As a father he instill in his kids to respected all people, do well in school and just enjoy being a kid. Investigator Joseph Whitehead in his own ways had prepared his family for the day that he could only be with them in spirit.
All the things mention above are the things I came to admire about Joseph Whitehead, I seen all these things first hand because I was his partner for a while, his field supervisor and I will always be his friend. This man was an exceptional husband, father, friend and law enforcement officer he never done anything with out giving it his all. Investigator Joseph Whitehead has closed his last case here on earth, a spiritual case has been open in his new spiritual home that will remain open forever as with our love for a man who is and always will be a true warrior for peace here on earth. REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER YOU HAVE EARNED IT TWENTY FOLDS OVER. A BEACON OF LIGHT GLOWS BRIGHTLY IN THE NAME OF INVESTIGATOR JOSEPH WHITEHEAD TO NEVER BURN OUT UNTIL THE TASK HE STARTED IS COMPLETE.

Peace Officer:

Joe always seemed at peace with himself and that showed in everything he did. He seemed to always have a smile and something nice to say although I know he dealt with the same ups and downs we all face. Joe possessed a certain character that is very rare. His legacy to those of us who are waiting to see him again is the memory of a very special person; a true PEACE Officer.

We will miss him until then.

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

there is something different about a officer. He who runs towards your worst fears as you run away. he who finds your baby in a crowded mall when they have lost your way. He who tries to comfort you when your love one is killed while at the same time hold make tears thinking of his own love ones praying they are safe tonight. he who holds back every urge to do harm to the person that took a young girl's innocents away. he doesn't do it for the glory cause it seldom comes nor does he do it for the pay check cause it will never be enough. he does it to help his fellow man in a day and age where everyone thinks of themselves he is always watching out for the innocentand weak to make sure no harm comes to them. rest now my brother your work on earth is done
