Jim, put out a call to Gary Blair, Dallas PD, EOW 03-20-86, and Brandon Coates, Orange County Florida SO, EOW 12-08-10. You all need to meet. I just got word of Deputy Coates and posted on his page, and then on Gary's. Within minutes, I got an email from your Mom and Dad sending me a beautiful Christmas card....I don't chalk that up to chance. Thank you for your sacrifice, and know that your folks are doing good things here in your memory. Take care and RIP....

Since the death of our beloved brother James, I continue to wear his bracelet with his full name on it and his badge number on my right wrist everyday as part of my Police Chaplain uniform. I do recall his short time of life on this earth and I will wear this bracelet to honor and remember him all the days of my life. Police Chaplain Jose L. Villegas, Sr.+

James,

You are not forgotten. The people that love and care about you will always remember. It's been three years and I'm sure to your loved ones it still feels like yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with them and your brothers and sisters you had to leave here on earth. I never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I know you were a stand up guy. I'm originally from Albuquerque so the loss of you still makes my heart heavy with saddness. Thank you James! Thank you for protecting my family and loved ones in Bernalillo County! Your sacrafice will never be forgotten! I think about you often as I walk through the national memorial. HEROES live forever!

In Valor there is Hope.

Policeman's 23rd Psalm

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

Deputy McGrane,

It's been 3 years today. Tragically yesterday afternoon, 3 Oakland Police officers were gunned down on a traffic stop as well, and a 4th now is in critical.

Let us never forget the courage and sacrifice it takes to be a police officer.

And to Mrs. McGrane - may your heart mend, and your spirit heal. Know that many people are thinking about you and praying for you today.

It's funny how time keeps going, but yet stands still. I read these reflections from friends, family, and complete strangers, but realize how Jim has blessed us all with the peace he brings to us through so many beautiful words that indeed have kept us all going. Sometimes March 22, 2008 seems like a long night that has never really passed. I miss Jim everyday and know that he is eternally safe and surrounded with love. Love from all of us here and also where he rests. Thank you for reaching out to say everything that you all do. Thank you for keeping his memory alive.

SORRY IT HAS TAKEN ME THIS LONG TO SEND MY PRAYERS. BUT I STILL REMEMBER THAT NIGHT AS IF IT WAS YESTERDAY, YOU SEE I AM THE DISPATCHER THAT WAS ON RADIO THE EVENING OF THIS TERRIBLE TRAGEDY. THE LAST TO HEAR HIS VOICE. I STILL WISH I COULD HAVE DONE MORE. ALL I CAN DO NOW IS LET THE FAMILY KNOW THAT HE IS STILL REMEMBERED EVERYDAY. EVERYTIME I GET ON RADIO, EVERYTIME ONE OF MY DEPUTIES CALLS OUT ON A TRAFFIC STOP. MAKING SURE I GET ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE TRAFFIC STOP CORRECT. CHECKING THE THEM CONTINUALLY. I HAVE BEEN A DISPATCHER FOR 11 YEARS NOW AND THE JOB DOES NOT GET EASIER. I LOVE MY JOB. MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO ALL THE MCGRANE FAMILY.
