Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff James Francis McGrane, Jr.

Son, I am sitting here preparing for our 16th annual Street Survival Training.
We have close to 400 Officers registered for this year's training.
It is always a great success. We get to see a lot of your friends and make some new ones.

You are always on our minds. We love you.

I saw a interview of this young killer in Santa Fe prison! He was smiling and liked the attention! How you doing now bud? Media interviewed the mother ( now dead 49) and was asked about the fact that she has 2 sons in prison for murder! Her response was I do not bother myself with that! Apparently!

Your killer is apparently not eligible for good behavior time so if he is ever released he would around 100 years old. Your killer actually avoided the death penalty (legal in New Mexico at the time) but he will stay locked up likely for the rest of his life

Even if that the thug who killed you is ever released from prison he will likely be so old that it wouldn't even matter that much.

I now live in Tijeras, and whenever I pass by the road where you were murdered by a coward, I cannot help but think of you. I never knew you, but I have so much respect for our LEO's and first responders. Thank you Deputy, for the service you provided.

I was employed as an APPO at the time of Deputy Mcgranes death and was subsequently assigned to assist with the apprehension of Michael Astorga whom I had previously supervised.

For reasons not known to me I awoke this morning at 0245 (07/03/15) with a clear vision of Deputy Mcgrane. I began to pray and shed tears although I did not know him personally.

I attended a sponsored calibre press event several years ago when I was still employed.

Although I did not know Deputy Mcgrane I will never forget. He will remain a part of my prayer life as will his surviving family members.

A candle was lit at the Santuario de Chimayo in memory of you today.

RESPECT, HONOR, DUTY, SELFLESS SERVICE.

Thank you Deputy Mcgrane for all you stand for and your sacrifice.

I know that you are in heaven with all the warriors who have passed from this life.

I WILL NEVER FORGET.

I WAS VERY CLOSE TO ALOT OF THE BCSO OFFICERS. WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO YOU WE WERE ALL IN A LOT OF PAIN. I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW HARD THIS WAS FOR YOUR FAMILY. YOUR FUNERAL WAS ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS I HAVE EVER HAD TO ENDURE. I SWEAR THAT THE WHOLE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE CAME TO A HALT FOR YOU THAT DAY, AS IT SHOULD HAVE. I HAVE WARN A SILVER BRACELET THAT I BOUGHT WITH YOUR NAME AND MAN NUMBER ON IT IN REMEMBERANCE OF YOU AND THE WONDERFUL WORK YOU DID AND THE LIFE YOU SACRIFICED EVERY DAY SINCE I GOT IT. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN 7 YEARS TODAY. THE DAY THAT THE CAUGHT THE ANIMAL THAT DID THIS TO YOU WAS A GLORIOUS DAY. I PRAY THAT YOU ARE HAPPY IN HEAVEN AND WATCHING DOWN OVER ALL OF US. GOD BLESS YOU JAMES MCGRANE.

Met you at the gas staion on 66 east of Tijeras store once . I lived in Edgewood and drove old 66 to ABQ daily. Went into work about 2 that morning and could see the gathering vehicles to the south when I went by. Gave me a shiver for some reason. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Didn't know you personally, Deputy, but it's likely we crossed paths as I drove to and from work from Edgewood to Albuquerque on Rt 66. Any time I hear someone bad-mouthing the police, I think of guys like you and speak up. My appreciation for your service and deepest condolences to your family.
