Reflections for Police Officer Matthew J. Melchionda

Sir, I did not know you but wanted to offer you my thanks for your sacrifice. People today do not respect the lights and sirens. Tragically, this is the result.
rest in Peace, brother. None of you are ever forgotten.

Lynn-
May you gain strength from the good memories, on this first anniversary of Matt's untimely passing.

Our husbands were in the same police academy recruit class 23-99. Today he made sure he mentioned Matt and told me that his department held a moment of silence in Matt's honor. Some of us, in life, have only met you under the worst conditions last year. I wished to you, when I held your hand, for God to give you strength, and I hope he has and will continue to do so. May you gather strength to know that Matt is not forgotten, his legacy lives on!

Blessing to you Lynn and the whole Melchionda family, today and in the future!

My heart goes out to the wife of Officer Melchionda on the first anniversary of his EOW. We are losing too many of our officers to accidents that could have been prevented. You will be in my prayers.....

Dear Lynn and Family,

I want you to know that Matthew Melchionda holds a very special place in my heart forever. Not many days go by that I don't think of Officer Melchionda. I still take Muffin to Petco for her grooming, but I leave my pocketbook in the car.(smile). God Bless you and I pray that all is well. Officer Melchionda is truly an Angel, God has told me so.

Love and Peace,

My thoughts are with you, your family, and the Watchung PD on this day. I'll be riding my bicycle 250 miles in honor of you on May 10-12 2007 in the Police Unity Tour. You protected the streets of Watchung and neighboring communities every day, riding in honor of you is my way of thanking you - I have many family members who live in the area.

Lynn, I know the pain you are feeling today and I just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you today. This is the hardest hurdle to get through but you can do it. Matt will help you. I know it will be SO hard to NOT replay one year ago today's events, but TRY to remember Matt in happier times. You know I am ALWAYS here for you for ANYTHING you need. I am glad that I have been able to help you this past year, its so much different when you have someone who was in your exact situation to talk to. We will forever be friends and I will always do whatever I can for you. Hang in there Lynn.

It is hard to believe one year has passed since you've been gone. The memory of your silly sense of humor and hearty laugh leaves a smile on my face. You possessed wisdom beyond your years and I always learned something interesting from you. May you rest in peace, knowing you are missed each and every day and will never be forgotten by all who knew and loved you. Love, LAURA, PETE and PETER ANDREW

Hey there Ace,

I am just sitting here reading what people have had to say to and Lynn. I miss you bud. Over the past year I have really missed your bad jokes, and occasionally you had a good one. Billy and I still talk about all the good times, as we will never forget them.

Dear Matt,
As our family celebrates this holiday season we feel empty and deeply saddened because you are not here with us. Just knowing we were with you one short year ago on Christmas is incredibly painful for us all. We hope you know how much we all adore you and hold the memories of the great times we had with you deep in our hearts. Please also know we will continue to pray for Lynnie's courage and strength through this difficult time.

We little knew that day, God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
You did not go alone,
for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide;
tho' we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, nothing seems the same,
but God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

Officer Melchionda,

Your legacy inspires myself and the rest of my police class at Somerset County Police Academy (class 37-06). When we read your name every day during the morning colors ceremony, it reminds us of your courage and pride. Everyone at the department has so much good to say about you. I would have been honored to work with you.

Rest in peace,
