A triute to Captain John B. Russell will be a ceremony on Memorial Day 2016 by the Department of Corrections, Colorado. There will be a stone cut and placed by the DOC prior to that date, since Captain Russell has never had a stone on his grave - in the 112 years since he was killed in action.
The Greenwood Pioneer Cemetery Committee, Board of the City of Canon City is sponsoring this dedication, as well, and is soliciting funds for a memorial sign explaining his heroism and dedication to duty. Memorial Day, May 30l, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Canon City, CO.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 99th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
