Reflections for Police Officer Kyle Russell Ballard

Dear Ballard Family

Kyle's life has made me a better and stronger man and for that I am thankful. Kyle was a honorable man, good and fun friend, a true warrior, and I will always cherish the times we spent together. Kyle and the Ballard family are in my thoughts and prayers.

There are no words that can adequately describe the greatness of this man. A fearless crime fighter, a devoted family man, and a TRUE FRIEND. Kilo, you always had my back. It is now my turn to step up and make sure I have your family's back. You rest now my brother and know that your family will be taken care of. Someday we will go 10-8 again in the "Big Body." Until then, like you always told me, "I will catch you up later."

I was friends with Kyle in high school. His boyish laugh and sense of humor is always what I will remember about Kyle. It does not surprise me he chose a career of helping and protecting others - that was Kyle. My prayers go to his wife and sons, his parents and sister and his friends at the Pasadena Police Department. May you rest in peace.

I remember Kyle and very happy that I got to really know him. He left a great impression on me, because he never let anything get to him. Even in those moments he dreaded he did what he had to do, he did his job and he did it well. Without a doubt Kyle was a Great Cop, but he was a greater man, and that is the person I am always going to feel sad when I think of him and remember that grin when he smiled. Kyle Ballard will be missed, and missed by many good friends and family. Cheers to you my Brother, Kyle!

Kyle will surely missed. He was a wonderful person who had a passion for his work and for his family. His death is absolutely tragic and inconceivable at such a young age. It was an honor to know him. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and 3 sons.

This trend recently of our officers losing thier lives due to training is very disturbing. May the Lord be with the family and co-workers as they try to make since of this. Someone so young just doing his job, doing what he was told to do, it don't make sense. Our thoughts are with the family and co-workers and the City of Pasadena and a greatful nation will forever be in you debt.

When the Lord calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange. When your heart is empty, filling it with happy memories can help us find your smile again Kyle.
It just takes a little darkness for us to see the stars, and whole lifetime to reach them. God's on your side.

Having only recently become an addition to the department; I just met Kyle a few weeks ago when he came to the team that overlaps mine. In a very short time of being around him, we spoke about life on the job and shared laughs. He came up to me in 18 one day and said, "Hey you're new right?" with a giant smile on his face. That one simple greeting led to a conversation I will not soon forget.

You could see that he wanted to know the people he worked with because they were his second family. His love for this job and his zest for living were immediatley apparent. He made a significant impression on me in a very short time. That is just a small testament to who he is and what he lived for.

I cannot express my symapthy enough for his loving wife and three young children. Kyle's untimely passing is a great loss for those who were close to him and for those few that never really had the chance. God bless you and your family.

Kyle,
words cannot express the void I've been feeling since you've left us. I sit here and think "if only you would have not been the nice guy you were; if only you wouldn't have been so humble; if only you wouldn't have connected on such a personal level with all the other officers that share a family life and the joys of fatherhood; if only you wouldn't have been such an inspiration to other people, then I could cope so much better with you leaving."
I cannot imagine how your wife must feel, but rest assured, we the Pasadena Police Dept. will always be there for her and your children.

Kyle-You were truly a hero in my eyes. You were an brave cop, a kind soul, and a true friend. I don't understand why you were taken from us. There were too many people here that loved you and needed you. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace. Your friend. R.S.

To Laurie and the boys-
Laurie, I worked with Kyle and wanted to let you know what an outstanding, loyal, kind man he was. I cannot imagine the grief you are going through losing your husband and best-friend. We had a few conversations about children and being married. Kyle would glow with pride and happiness every time he talked about you and the boys. I could tell that his family meant the world to him. I know he is watching over you guys. You and the boys are in my thoughts and prayers. I truly am sorry for you loss.

I was told Kyle died from an enlarged heart. Although anyone who knew Kyle, knew he always had a Big Heart.

Who would have thought that the part of Kyle that made us love him; would take him from us.

I truly miss you,

kyle, i will miss you my friend. i will miss seeing you at your locker, next to me. I will miss the fact that everytime i passed you at your locker you would try to wrestle me and joke around. I always thought it was amazing that you were such a great officer, but still so humble. i appreciate, along with the other guys in our unit that you were always willing to help us learn the gang stuff, because YOU really wanted us to do well. i will miss you

I was hired as a civilian employee two months after Kyle started. Although I was not fortunate enough to see Kyle on a regular basis, each experience I had with him strengthened my feeling that he was an incredibly good-natured person of great character, and also with a great sense of and appreciation for humor. He treated everyone respectfully and had the wonderful habit of always saying hello to people by name, no matter how busy or rushed he was. I always enjoyed our encounters because he was so gracious, pleasant and positive every time. You couldn't help but enjoy the experience of just being around him.

Though I never knew you personally Kyle, I have known many like you. Young, hard working, all caring Police Officers willing to give all you had to get the job done. I left almost a full year before you came on the job and I truly regret that we never had a chance to meet. I know we would have worked well together and would have become great friends. God Bless you and care for you. Rest assured that all of us, and the Lord, will take care of your family for you.
