My Dear Jared,

Grayness abounds in my days and my nights.
Time passes, the sun comes and goes;
I have slight awareness of it all.

The stars speak your name and
the wind, carrying your spirit, touches my face.
The pain is real ... deep ... and never ending.

Exuding passion, joy, courage and love,
your life was a gift to this world.
A copy of you will never exist.

Braveheart, Star Wars Jedi Warrior defined you well.
Defeating the darkness cost you your life for
without halting, you faced Satan here on earth.

Yours is a most natural grave,
set within God's beauty of mountains,
trees, wild flowers and the kind.

How good that the word HERO marks the spot.
You gave man all that you had 'till there was no more.
Grief, pride, loss, eternal love .. in me .. for you.

Passionately you traded the actor's stage for the badge
for you stated I want my life to count ... to matter.
With courage, your life's goal most certainly accomplished.

..... Jared, I wrote the above words four years ago. The "grayness" still abounds but I continue to put one foot in front of the other. I miss you terribly.

We leave for Colorado Springs in the morning and I will be playing in the 5th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament for Fallen Officers. I'll visit the bus bench, the park that bears your name and I'll visit some of the places where you and I were together on "ride-alongs." I'll be back in Colorado in August and then Jeff, Jonika and I will visit the "Hallowed Ground" where you were laid to rest.

My heart is broken.

Love you, Jared.

Tomorrow we will say goodbye to our brother. The day seems almost to much to take. I picked up the vest he wore on his motorcycle runs and looked at the pins and patches he had. At the top were the pins for you and Ken. He wore them right over his heart. I gave those to him so long ago because he said he wanted to always remember you both and ride in your memory. It caught me off guard to see them on his vest and I broke down in tears. Knowing he was thinking of you and so many other when he rode brings me some peace. Please watch over him and lead him home.

J-Rod...
Thinking of you, and all others who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for giving me motivation and focus....and for showing us all the blueprints of what a true hero is and does. We should all aspire to leave an impact on the lives of others as you did....reminding us to always stand up for GOOD to overcome the evil in the world. Missing you/Thinking of you this week...and ALWAYS,

Meridith

I found your pin and wrist band your department was selling after you passed and automatically thought of your funeral I attended. I can't believe it has been 4 years since your passing. I bought them while competing at a Police Explorers conference. I am now a Police Officer and I have placed that pin on the bullet proof vest I wear to remind me of you and of the ultimate sacrifice that cops make. I am thankful for being able to attend your funeral it has touched me in so many ways. It is still tragic that your life had to end, but I want you to know you have made me stronger as a cop even though I have never met you. Thank you and I wish your family all the best.

Time doesn't seem to matter, I miss you terribly. Caught myself the other day thinking how I had to call you because something happened. Well, one day bro, we'll have that conversation. Thinking about you man.

I know that it all happens for a reason.......just wish sometimes that the reasons were clearer to us......but I guess that's kind of the whole point behind the idea of Faith.....trusting even when you don't understand. Thank you for watching out for us all...and for always reminding me of WHY I still do the job......Miss you.

Still hard to believe that's its been 4 years. Thank you for the many wonderful memories. As many people have said before, you are a true hero. But I've known that for many years as you've always been a wonderful brother and HERO to me, always protecting me from harms way. I love you and miss you....but I know that your still with me.

Love Always,
Jonika

I thought of you and Officer Jordan today. I'll never forget either of your processions and the profound impact you had on my young life. You inspired me to do greater things with my life and pursue a higher calling. You didn't die in vain, you inspired and touched the loves of many. Your loved ones miss you, the world misses you.

I went to a park today to say hello to a friend. It was not lost on my how both the bitter cold and the somber feeling of an empty park seemed oddly appropriate. "In valor, there is hope." Thank you for your sacrifice. You are missed.
