Reflections for Detective Jared Scott Jensen

Hi Honey,

The following, dated 2/22/06, states what is written on the hearts of so many:

"I had heard of Jared, Jeff, Jonika, and so many other family members that Tom is proud of. I heard as many do, but never really listened. It's a busy world and we all talk about loved ones and hurry back to work...

The day I stopped to listen: I returned from lunch to a devastated office. This event would change me forever and bring me closer to the man named Tom and his boy, Jared Jensen...

I never knew Jared, never met him, never even heard his voice. Still, a part of me feels his presence, his power, the importance of his life. I have been fortunate enough to be one of the people that Tom has opened up to. Through Tom, I have come to know Jared: the boy he was, the son, the brother, the husband, the actor, the officer, the difference maker, the life changer. I could only hope, as I continue to hear and see the tributes and honors, that upon my death I will be able to touch and change so many lives. Hearing about Jared, makes me want to be a better person, be more involved with family, and to make some difference while I am given time on earth. Jared remains an inspiration to so many. I know that Tom has vowed to spend the rest of his days honoring his son. Because of this, I have had the pleasure to know Jared.

The tragedy of this event is still prevalent, but it does not overshadow the inspiring presence that Jared keeps. He has left his stamp on the world and so many hearts!"

Love you

Miss you

Det. Jensen,

Every time I put on my uniform, I cannot help but think of you and your family. I had the privilege to meet your nephew the other night, and I let him know how much we all miss you and love you, and most importantly, that you died as a hero defending your community. I long for the day when I can put on my uniform and help clean the streets you swore to protect. May God hold you dear for eternity.

From your younger brother in blue,

Sam

Jared,
Was cleaning out my drawer the other day (where I keep the important papers) and came across all the articles and newspapers that I have kept over the years from the Springs. Thought of you and sticks as swords behind grandma's house, Star Wars figures and force fields, snowball fights and no hitting below the belt, and U2 videos and an over protective brother. Miss you. Your sacrifice continues to live on in all of us

Love,

Nothing is the same
nor will it ever be.
One day, one moment, in one instant
my life was changed ... irreversibly so.

A sunrise, a sunset ... no longer
a pleasant reprieve to view
but a marking of one day passing
bringing me closer to being with you.

How am I to live my life?
What goals, what demands will
I place upon myself in this world?
What personal traits will I strive to personify?

My son - these are questions
you faced and answered so magnificently well
with passion, love, commitment
and courage supreme.

Like the saying on the knit hat
you wore as a very young boy
... "Reach for Excellence" ...
those words attest to your legacy.

You have given us a road map,
directions for life
and how one should live.
All unstated except by your actions - your life.

My precious, precious son.
You have impacted thousands of people
in such positive ways. Your legacy will
continue to inspire, encourage & to lead others.

Until God calls me home
to be with you ...
know that you are in my heart
FOREVER.

I love you Jared

I love you son,

Dad

The Brightness
Of His Spirit

Anyone who knew Him
felt the brightness of his Spirit.
No life His hand reached out to
stayed the same.
The world once touched
by His unselfish kindness
still echoes with the honor
of His name.

The footprints that he left
were firm of purpose.
The path He walked,
a wise and hopeful one.
And written on the pages of forever
In praise of Him
will be these words …

Well done.

It been awhile my classmate,co-worker, and friend I never got to know you well outside of work but I was deeply moved by your additude when we did interact. Being your academy mate and sector partner in the sandcreek division was truly a pleasure. Those days posted up as a baker unit setting speed traps!:) lol. I have came a long way since those days which I credit you for helping me deal! words of support when I felt beaten. I will never forget the time we shared and the role you played in my book of life. God bless your soul and those whom cherish your memory, continue to rest my bother tho we all we be together one day.

We went to the Memorial last week for the first time. It was nice to go and be able to sit and think without all of the hustle and bustle of Police Week. There was a crew there trimming trees and their trucks were parked right in front of the panels for you and Ken. In one of the most gracious things I have ever seen someone do, without a word, they started their trucks up and moved them off of the concourse so we could sit and pay our respects. I was so deeply moved by their kindness. I'm sure they had a schedule to keep, but it was truly amazing to see complete strangers stop everything and let us have a few moments. There were SO many names and I was really taken back by that. You are truly in the company of some remarkable men and women. Even though we never met, I have had the pleasure of hearing some great stories from your family. I feel honored to have had that chance. Thank you for the lessons you have taught me. I hope I have lived up to my promise. Please continue to watch over us and guide all of us down our chosen paths in life. May God always hold you family in His grace.

The overwhelming message for the day today was that we need to learn from your sacrafice and the example you lead for us all.......that our time here is limited, and the best way to honor you, and all of the other 'Angels' we have watching over us is to LIVE, LOVE, SHARE JOY, to have FAITH and BELIEVE in the GOOD that can overcome EVIL.

The sun shined bright today as we stood at the bench.....and the tears were mixed with plenty of laughter...as should be. The bagpipes and taps made me cry as they always do, but there many were powerful and positive words spoken that carried the same message. LIVE, LOVE, SHARE JOY, and have FAITH.

Much Love and Thank You to All who continue to remember our beloved J-Rod and still encircle our family with never-ending Love and Support. And to those who continue his watch with unwavering bravery and courage, WE will always hold you dear to our hearts....

Miss You Always J-Rod......but still remembering to ENJOY THE RIDE...

Six years ago today, you were taken from us all. Those of us who know you are at peace knowing you are watching over us all. We all think of you often and your ultimate sacrifice to the people of the city of Colorado Springs.
A true hero is one that runs head on into disaster while other flee it. You, J-Rod, did not run. Your father said you always wanted to be a superhero when you were a kid. Well, you did it. YOU are a TRUE HERO!
