Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. Remember when I asked yout that stupid question: Were you going to watch the Super Bowl?

I didn't realize then that you probably knew.
I didn't want to realize how bad things were.
I was praying for a miracle.
You kept a brave face.

Sometimes I wonder what you would be doing now.
I wanted to see you married and have kids. I knew they would love having you for a Dad. I wanted to see what you wanted to do with your life. You were applying yourself so intensely to your goals.

You know, I had to move because you left here.
I couldn't look for another place to live in Chicago.
I couldn't stand seeing CPD around town, and knowing it wouldn't be you.

Eric, it will always be shocking that you're not here. I try to comfort myself by thinking that God takes you when he's ready. And I have to accept God was ready for you.

I just thought God wanted you to keep shining on the earth.

I find myself thinking about your Mom, praying for your Mom. I don't have pictures of you around my house. That would drive me crazy.

So many people miss you. I'm sure you know. I'm sure you see. I'm comforted because I know you are looking over your Mom, family, friends, and fellow officers.
