Reflections for Police Officer Eric Solorio

Eric, OMG you are going to be remembered forever. The Chicago Board of Education is naming a new high school after you. Eric Solorio Academy High School. Oh wow, how wonderful this is.

I get it now, Eric. It took me a long time to get to this point. I finally opened my heart to them. What a beautiful thing that happened in the midst of chaos! Thank you for being a wonderful police officer. But mostly thank you for being my baby brother.

Happy 4th of July, Eric. Miss you terribly and wish you were still here. My heart still hurts and the pain never goes away. It will never end, until she apologizes and acknowledges what she did to our family. I love you baby brother! My world is not the same without you.

I will be going to Springfield for the Police Memorial. Chicago is adding three names to the memorial this year. I will be thinking of both you and Michael Gordon, two of my "jump out boys". You both were two of my best and you are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

You and all of your loved ones and all those close to you are in my thoughts. Keep watch over all of them, especially your Mother for I know the daily struggle she faces each day without you. She carried you in her arms when you were a child, she now carries you forever in her heart. Watch over her and all of your loved ones. You have not been forgotten.

Remember when I asked yout that stupid question: Were you going to watch the Super Bowl?

I didn't realize then that you probably knew.
I didn't want to realize how bad things were.
I was praying for a miracle.
You kept a brave face.

Sometimes I wonder what you would be doing now.
I wanted to see you married and have kids. I knew they would love having you for a Dad. I wanted to see what you wanted to do with your life. You were applying yourself so intensely to your goals.

You know, I had to move because you left here.
I couldn't look for another place to live in Chicago.
I couldn't stand seeing CPD around town, and knowing it wouldn't be you.

Eric, it will always be shocking that you're not here. I try to comfort myself by thinking that God takes you when he's ready. And I have to accept God was ready for you.

I just thought God wanted you to keep shining on the earth.

I find myself thinking about your Mom, praying for your Mom. I don't have pictures of you around my house. That would drive me crazy.

So many people miss you. I'm sure you know. I'm sure you see. I'm comforted because I know you are looking over your Mom, family, friends, and fellow officers.

Miss you till I see you again!

I was thinking about you and it crossed my mind that you never really got a chance to celebrate, as you were always working on this night. This year, I will make sure I celebrate for both of us :D
