To the family and friends of Trooper Steven Smith and to his fellow officers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol:

My heart was saddened today to learn of another horrific crime that took the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer. Trooper Smith, you soldiered on for seven years after you were shot and your valor and courageous spirit is inspirational.

To his family and friends: On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Steven tragically died.

May you be comforted by the support and warm embrace of the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with you. Trooper Smith is a true hero whose bravery and dedication to protecting the citizens of Oklahoma will not be forgotten.

To his children: I am glad you found this site. It has been such a comfort to me to visit this site after my son was murdered in the line of duty last April. It helps to read the reflections, and I have found it a great way to communicate with my beloved. I know your dad gets your messages.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Trooper Smith gave to his community and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 9, 2006, and for the sacrifices of the last seven years.
