Was 'browsing' Mayes County Okla and this got my attention.
Grew up in Mayes County, entered World War 2, began driving buses for Greyhound in 1949, retired in 1981, 25 years ago, so you can see I am no Spring Chicken.
For years worked on 'Old 66' highway, then of course the turnpikes. Troopers were our Friends and I continue greiving after all these years for Troopers needlessly murdered, one occasion in late 50s I believe, a trooper stopped young folks in a vehicle near Chandler on the Turnpike and was murdered as he walked toward their vehicle.
Over the years, others. I Pray for GOD to correct this Evil World.
Each incident of Troopers murdered on the Oklahoma Turnpikes,Truck drivers and Bus drivers arranged for Donations for the families be taken at the exit gates.
Each new Catostrophy of a Trooper's death,or other police, whether City,County,State or Federal,Military, brings grief and sadness to the families, and to friends.
Most of my boyhood friends of Oklahoma(school Locust Grove),have gone on to the 'Happy Hunting Ground'.At the last school re-union,none were around, except for their younger siblings, happy to see them though. sam

It breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live without the man they loved. From reading all the reflections left for Steven, it sounds like Steven was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. Remember that Steven's life was about so much more than the way he died. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate Steven's life and the MAN that he was. Steven will continue to live on in our memories and in the hearts of those who continue to remember him.

As a fellow Canadian and a "survivor" please accept my condolences. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper Smith. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. If you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Trooper Smith, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years since he's been gone but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Trooper Smith, my heart goes out to you and your family. The coward who shot you took the coward's way out by shooting himself. Rest assured that this coward will face the ultimate justice when he faces God and he will be punished. May God bless you and your family. You and your family are in my prayers.

You were always willing to lend a helping hand to your fellow officers regardless of the situation. That's what I remember most about you. You were a prime example of those few known as a policeman's policeman, a title reserved for the most dedicated and professional among us.

Dear Brother,

THE PLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED GOD,
WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS.
HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING,
JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS.

"STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN.
HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU?
HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK?
TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED HIS SHOULDERS AND SAID, "NO LORD, I GUESS I AIN'T,
BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO CARRY A BADGE
CANT ALWAYS BE A SAINT."

I'VE HAD TO WORK MOST SUNDAYS,
AND AT TIMES MY TALK WAS ROUGH,
AND SOMETIMES I'VE BEEN VIOLENT,
BECAUSE THE STREETS ARE AWFULLY TOUGH.

BUT I NEVER TOOK A PENNY,
THAT WASN'T MINE TO KEEP
THOUGHT I WORKED A LOT OF OVERTIME
WHEN THE BILLS GOT JUST TOO STEEP.

AND I NEVER PASSED A CRY FOR HELP,
THOUGH AT TIMES I SHOOK WITH FEAR.
AND SOMETIMES, GODD GORGIVE ME,
I'VE WEPT UNMANLY TEARS.

I KNOW I DONT'T DESEVER A PLACE
AMONG THE PEOPLE HERE.
THEY NEVER WANTED ME AROUND
EXCEPT TO CALM THEIR FEAR.

IF YOU'VE A PLACE FOR ME HERE, LORD,
IT NEEDNT'T BE SO GRAND.
I NEVER EXPECTED OR HAD TOO MUCH,
BUT IF YOU DON'T I'LL UNDERSTAND.

THERE WAS A SILENCE ALL AROUND THE THRONE WEHRE THE SAINTS HAD OFTEN TROD.
AS THE POICEMAN WAITED QUIETLY,
FOR THE JUDGEMENT OF HIS GOD.

"STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN,
YOU'VE BORN YOUR BURDENS WELL.
COME WALK A BEAT ON THE HEAVEAN'S STREET, YOU'VE DONE YOUR TIME IN HELL"

May your family, brothers, and friends take these words and use them to ease their minds and hearts. I hope they know that a nation morns with you all

What to say about a man that made such an impact on my life and as an officer. Steve in a short time of two years you became a true friend and a wonderful ear. I thank you and wish we could have spent more time talking and working together you taught me so much and you didn't even know it. I wanted to talk to your family at your funeral but couldn't keep my composure. You are one of three men in my life to have impacted me to be who I am My father being one of the others. I think of you every day and I now know you're happy. Rest in peice my friend we will keep the peice here in your honor.

Dad I miss you so much. I always think about the good times I was fortunate to spend with you. I just wish that I could see you or call you whenever I wanted. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you. I wish you were still here, but I know you suffered alot too. I really miss you dad. You meant so much to me. The day you were shot and the day your life ended were and always be the worst days of my life. I love so much dad. Keep me strong for Steph and Just for me too. This is so hard. I love dad.
