I WORKED WITH STACY AT LAFAYETTE COUNTY S.O. WHILE I WAS THERE FOR ONE YEAR AND THREE MONTHS. IN THOSE 15 MONTHS I MADE SEVERAL FRIENDS AT THE DEPARTMENT AND OTHER AGENCY'S AROUND THE AREA. THESE OFFICERS QUICKLY WENT FROM FRIENDS TO MY FAMILY AND STACY LIKE MY BROTHER IN A DEPARTMENT THAT I BECAME A HOME. STACY SAVED MANY LIVES AS A DEPUTY AND A FIREFIGHTER. WE WORKED ACCIDENTS TOGETHER AND AS LONG AS I WEAR THIS BADGE HE WILL BE WORKING WITH ME AND ALL THE OTHER OFFICERS THAT WORK TO KEEP US SAFE. STACY WILL BE MISSED, BUT IN MY HEART HE WILL ALWAYS BE WORKING WITH US. THANK YOU STACY FOR DOING WHAT I KNOW YOU LOVED DOING AND WHAT I ALSO LOVE DOING. MAKING THIS WORLD A LITTLE SAFER ONE LIFE AT A TIME. REST MY BROTHER.

To the family and friends of Deputy Stacy McMurrough and to his fellow officers with the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department:

My heart was saddened today to learn of another horrific accident that took the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Deputy McMurrough was tragically killed.

May you be comforted by the support and warm embrace of the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with you. Deputy McMurrough is a true hero whose bravery and dedication to protecting the citizens of Arkansas will not be forgotten.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Deputy McMurrough gave to his community as a law enforcement officer and as a volunteer fireman, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 10, 2006.

REGRET
I regret that I did not know Stacy better. I regret that I did not know the man that was there for so many. From strangers stranded or hurt to sharing a laugh with life long friends, but most of all I regret not knowing the man that was someone my husband could depend on in his line of work. I realize now that the line between a “happy wife’ and a “grieving widow” is very thin when you are married to an officer. Having dependable fellow officers can mean the difference. Thank you for always being there. You are remembered both for your life and your death.

My little brother; you gave your life doing exactly what you loved to do, you were by baby, my best friend, and my confident. You were the best brother a sister could ever hope for and the best uncle and friend. You were a true servant to our family and community. we will miss you, but your memory will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace and hold my little Faith close until that glorious day that we will be reunited and walk the streets of heaven together. I Love you biggun.

Today was a day no Sheriff should ever go thru. I buried not only a truly good deputy who did his job with honor but, I also buried my friend. Stacy was my "go to guy" when I needed someone he was always there. He helped when anyone needed time off or just to fill in where needed. I know his family and they are strong. I knew Stacy's faith it was strong. Since Friday night at 8:20 I have had to be strong. Tonight I am weak. I miss my friend and I miss my deputy. His service to our office and to his community will not be forgotten. My faith promises a great reunion. Rest for now my friend.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"
