Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Henry Prendes

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

I just wanted to say that you, your family and fellow officers are in my thoughts and prayers. Even though we never met, you are family to me and I will miss you. It
is comforting to know that there are Angels like you up there watching over all officers and their families. I, for one feel safer knowing you are watching over us all.
Rest in Peace--YOu will NEVER be forgotten. Heroes Live Forever....

It's been three years ago today that you were taken from us and are now in the arms of Jesus. I'm sure it's everything you ever imagined.
Today is also Super Bowl Sunday and Dawn had the annual Super Bowl gathering. We all took time to celebrate your life with the video from your "Celebration of Life" from the day of your services. Dawn spoke to everyone there about the importance of having Christ in our lives and how much you loved God. She had a hard time, but she made it through. She made us all proud of how committed she is to keeping your memory alive. Your golf tournament will be March 27th this year to help raise money for "Henry's Place". The camp you dreamed of for underpriviledged kids.

I miss you friend. I miss your unwaivering smile and your immense sense of humor, but mostly your love of people and for the Lord. I know where you are and that gives us all great peace. You are loved.

Henry,
It has been 3 years that you've been in Heaven with Jesus. I just read the article about Dawn in the Christian Standard. Her faith is remarkable.
Sgt. Prende served proudly and was deeply loved and respected by those who
knew him. It is a tragedy to lose him. We never know when our lives on this
earth will end, but we can make a reservation in Heaven now and assure us a
place when God calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life
(John 14:6) and He PAID the price for our sins on the Cross so we don't have to pay the penalty for our sins. Yipee! If we accept His payment by faith we can have salvation and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It is not something we must earn, it is a gift. The most precious one we can ever receive. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith_and this not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God_not by good deeds, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2: 8,9. For without faith, it is impossible to please God. And our faith must be in God's only Son, Jesus Christ.
You were a credit to the uniform, Henry. My heart goes out to your
loved ones left behind and may the Lord comfort them as only He can. I am
so thankful that you knew and loved our Lord Jesus. See you some fine day.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Henry Prendes and his fellow officers in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to pay honor to Henry's memory on the third anniversary of the day Henry so tragically lost his life. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.

May you be continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are still experiencing.

Please know that the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement and police survivors will always be by your side on each step of the journey.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of service Henry gave to his community and the citizens of Neveda, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 1, 2006.

Henry -

I just learned of your passing today, and it brought tears to my eyes. I have fond memories of us hanging out with the gang in 6th grade at Madison. You were a great friend and a wonderful person. Best wishes to your family. The world is a lesser place without you.

Henry,

There is not one day that goes by that you and your family are not in our thoughts and prayers. I'll never forget that tragic Wednesday when I got the phone call from my husband that you had been killed. Henry, I had never met you and for that I am very sad but you have been a strong part of my life ever since. I left my safe banking job a different person that day. The reality of being the spouse of someone in Law Enforcement became very real to the dangers that you all face, on duty and off. Because we all know that you are really never off duty.

I found this poem (author unknown) that I think really shows what you sacrificed that day. Another day at work for our brave officers can become a life changing day to those left behind. God bless you, Dawn, and the girls. We love you.

In the Simple Performance of Duty

In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.

In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squad room hall.

In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.

In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.

In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty.

I just learned today of your passing. Shock, disbelief, and sadness do not even begin to describe what I feel. The first time we met was in the 6th grade at Madison; we were in the same homeroom. Over the years of our childhood, our paths crossed with a class here and there from Fremont, to LVHS, and on through to college. You always had a twinkle in your eye, you always had a kind word for everyone, and you were always well liked and respected by your peers. I'm not at all surprised that you were an outstanding officer; because you were always an outstanding person. God Bless you and your family.

To my friend Henry,
Henry you were a good man and a solid officer. I was saddened the day of your passing.I remeber the days we worked together at Northeast Area Command. You were a hard working officer and fun to be around. Thank you for those memories.I'm glad to know that your relationship with Christ was strong, and you had given yourself to the Lord. Our time on Earth is temporary, but Salvation is eternal. Rest in Peace my friend, in the arms of the Lord.

It is obvious from the amount of listings on this page that a mans legacy lives on after his departure. Having known Sgt. Prendes back in high school, this is no suprise to me. Even then, Henry had the ability to make things happen.

God bless Sgt. Prendes and his family.

Although I did not know Sargeant Prendes personally. He showed care and concern when he did not have to. Without going into detail.I was making well meaning, howbeit unwise choices in a hard time in my life. He spoke just a couple kind words to me when others were being cruel. For that;I will always be greatfull. I remember his wife and children in prayer, and lift them up to our "father who art in heaven". May our Great God and saviour raise up many more officers like him. Sincerely!

Sergeant Prendes
I was blessed to have heard your wife, Dawn, speak this evening at the National Day of Prayer Banquet in Tracy Ca. I couldn't contain the tears that were freely flowing as she told your story. I just want to say that your story touched me so deeply. It made me stop and think about what it is that I am doing to further Gods Kingdom.
Thank you for living your life to the fullest and for glorifying God throughout your journey. I thank Dawn also for having the courage to tell your story. Thank you for living a life that has touched so many people. I know that it will continue to touch lives and your legacy will continue to lead others to Christ. Thank you, my brother in Christ. Until we can meet face to face I will continue to uphold your family in my prayers.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
