Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective John Michael Piskator

I'm just trying to be a father
Raise a daughter and a son
Be a lover to their mother
Everything to everyone
Up and at 'em, bright and early
I'm all business in my suit
Yeah, I'm dressed up for success
From my head down to my boots

I don't do it for the money
There's bills that I can't pay
I don't do it for the glory
I just do it anyway
Providing for our future's my responsibility
Yeah I'm real good under pressure
Being all that I can be

And I can't call in sick on Mondays
when the weekends been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays
And sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey, I'm true down to the core
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don't want to die for you
but if dyin's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor
'cause freedom don't come free

I'm an American soldier, an American
beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand
When Liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front line
Sleep'in in peace at night
American soldier, I'm an American soldier

Yeah, an American soldier, an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand
When Liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front line
So Sleep in peace tonight
American soldier, I'm an American
An American, an American soldier

REST IN PEACE AND GOD BLESS YOU

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé's Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Detective Piskator. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me.

From reading all the reflections left for John, he sounds like he was a great man and a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember John's life and the MAN that he was. His life was about so much more than the way he died. Remember that "Wherever a beautiful soul has been ... there is a trail of beautiful memories." John will live on in those memories.

Detective Piskator, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

While we're proud of the new life and adventure John sought as a peace officer, we'll never forget his remarkable talents as an engineering and business executive in Silicon Valley. Genuine to the core, John Piskator was a gift to all who knew him. I've thought of him often since he left Applied Materials, and am deeply saddened by his passing.

Any loss in the police community is a shock. The loss of a local Hero hits home, even more. I was not aware of the tragic loss of Detective Piskator until just now. All I have to say is that your brothers and sisters in Miami feel terrible hearing this news. I hope that your family takes comfort in knowing that you will always be Honored; in our hearts and minds, Forever. Rest in comfort and peace, Always.

Johnny "P",

My brother, my team mate and my friend. I worked with you every day and knew I could always count on you pushing me to get off my butt and chase drug dealers "ALL DAY". As a combat vet myself, you were the one I could turn to when those old thought came back around. The one I could talk to about things not many understand. You were an outstanding servant to this community and one of the finest Americans I have every had the pleasure of serving with. It seems like I could never kid you enough about your hair, your proper speach or even the way you dressed. But I hope you went to the Lord knowing that I found you to be an outstanding man. "Brothers Forever" John. I will tip my cup at every sitting and want you to know that I personally will carry on your good work SIR.. Every day. All day, and I will never forget.

I worked with John at Applied Materials. His passion and enthusiasm for all that he did was contagious. His never wavering optimism and gung- ho attitude served as example to all of us - his colleagues. He was a tremendous human being. A great guy.

John, seems like just yesterday when I hired you at Applied Materials. Remember the wine festivals we would go to in Santa Clara with Nathan running around as a toddler? Guess you had enough of crazy California life. You are the last person I would have thought would die from a heart attack. Its just too hard to imagine and makes me sad. I am glad your new life in Florida was a happy one. Police work suits you to a "T" my friend - only the good die young. God Speed.

My dearest John,
It's hard for me right now to express the words of how much your love meant to me..and how I just wish I had one last glimpse, one final touch, oh to see that glowing smile again. I know you will be watching and keeping us from harms way-"thanks for the fire alarm". You were truly an amazing man, father and partner, soldier, police officer! I just cannot express how it FILLS MY HEART to read the reflections being left from near and far, it seems you had a wonderful gift of touching many. And now that I have met your wonderful family, it is clear to see the greatness from which you have come. I thank you all for your love, thoughts and prayers and my deepest condolences to Nathan and the entire Piskator Family! I love you. See you in my dreams babe. All my love ....Pj xo xo xo

John,
It is with great despair I heard the news. I got to know you about 10 years ago during your stint in the semiconductor industry. I came to have the highest respect for the way you carried yourself and ever since have been an inspiration. Sir, you will be sorely missed.
