I had the satisfaction of working with Matt at Texas A&M in Dallas. Matt was a great person to work with. Matt's tragedy was truly a great loss. To his family I send my prayers. GOD SPEED BROTHER.

I really don't know what to say, except I can't believe our families are going through this. You never think it is going to happen to you. Our husbands were great men and both to young to go. I know this was not part of our plan, and hopefully one day we will understand why it was apart of His. They still had life to live, kids to raise, and wife's to love. I am so sorry this happened to you and your kids.

Matt was a great man. He was my FarmHouse Brother at Texas Tech and I knew back then that he would turn into an amazing man. I was extremely saddened by the news when I heard what happened. Christy, I pray for you and your kids as you grieve during this extremely difficult time. My heart goes out to you and I know that you will all be reunited again in heaven. May God keep watch over you and protect you in your darkest days.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies; it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain." John 12:24

"With my shield, or on it!"

Matt,
You are my hero. You were my hero before you joined the navy to serve our country; before you joined the DPS to serve our State; because you always served our Lord. You always remembered the small things to make people feel special. You took the narrow path even when it wasn't easy...and you kept that beautiful smile on your face. I hope you can see the legacy you have left. Many are coming to the Lord because of your faith. You and Christy blessed us with a great expample. Your children were honored to have you - all because Jesus shined through you. We will continually be praying for Christy and the kids, and loving them, too. I can't wait to see you again in that cloud of witnesses. Until then...I will miss you!

To the family and friends of Trooper Matthew Myrick and his fellow officers with the Texas Highway Patrol:

On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences for the grievous loss you suffered when Trooper Myrick tragically lost his life in the line of duty. His dedication will be forever remembered.

May you be comforted and supported by your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. There are many who share this painful journey with you who will be by your side.

In reading the reflections about Matt, it was obvious he was admired and loved by many and that he had an unshakeable faith in God. I hope that his faith and your faith sustains you during these dark hours. May God continue to watch over his family.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Matt gave to his community and the citizens of Texas , and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 20, 2006.

Trooper Myrick,

I wanted you to know that I will be entering the DPS academy in a couple of weeks. I'll walk by your memorial & picture everyday. When the academy begins to get tough and demanding I will think of you, the sacrifice you made and the family you left behind. I will also lean upon the same faith that sustained you through the grueling 6 months. You will not be forgotten. May our mighty God sustain your family during this time.
