Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Matthew DeWayne Myrick

Our hearts broke when we heard of the death of Matt. We didn't know him personally but have known his wife and in-laws since 1980. Knowing them tells us all we need to know about who Matt was. We grieve with you over this tragic loss. God be with you all.

I am deeply saddened and sorrowful. Words cannot fully express the feelings of loss of Matt. I am thankful to have known him. Your family is in my prayers and thoughts. Seek God and his council for comfort, for guidance and for peace. Know that Matts hopes and desires for others, especially with this Department will continue on.

Words can not say enough but, we mourn another hero that has been taken from us. My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers. May the Lord give you strength and bless each of you during this time. Remember these few verses taken from the KJB. In I Samuel 20:3 it says, And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly [as] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, [there is] but a step between me and death. And in Philippians 1:21 it says, For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.

ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THE CAR ACCIDENTS. God, watch over my brothers and sisters while they drive from call to call and in their normal patrol. Far too many Officers, Troopers and Deputies have been taken in this manner as of late. Protect all who protect others from all harm, but please God, keep their vehicles and all who occupy them out of harms way.

Trooper Myrick, you will always be with your family and co-workers, watching over them and guiding them through life, but your not being there in person hurts them, and all of us in your extended family. May the roads you patrol in Heaven always be clear and free from harm.

God Bless and Rest in Peace, Brother.

Though we only talked on the phone and played the paper shuffle, I truly wish I could have met you when we have SWAT tryouts. I know you would have been the right person for the job and your professionalism and desire you stated in the Bio sheet was right on and what we needed on the SWAT Team. The tryouts will go on in your memory. See you on the other side.

Matt, You were an example to us all. I love you and your family as a Christian brother should. I know that you are will God at this moment and would not come back down here. Rest assured that I will do my best to safeguard your family and that Lisa and I will be there for them night or day. Until we meet again on the other side, Godspeed. Mac

As I travelled today on business in Eastern New Mexico, I saw numberous Texas DPS units. When I asked one of my store managers about them, he told of the death of a DPS officer. Tonight I began an internet search of the story and was directed to this site. I have no affiliation with law enforcement outside of the friends I have in the Texas DPS. To the family and friends of Trooper Myrick, please accept my condolences, thank you for your sacrifice, and know that my heart hurts for your loss. We are less without him, greater for having been protected by him, and heaven is one soul richer. God Bless you and all law enforcement officers.

No amount of words from any of us can ease your grief and suffering at the lost of your husband, father and bother officer. But remain strong in your faith and know god as a plan for us all. Take comforted in knowing you will see Matthew again as we walk the streets of heaven. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. All the law enforcement community across the country feels you’re lost as well, we to have lost a bother in the fight. So it’s with a heavy heart we send our deepest sympathy to your family and the Texas Highway Patrol. Rest in peace Matthew, you may be gone but know you will never be forgotten.

My prayers are with the family during this devastating and shocking time. I am a fellow survivor (I lost my father in 2000) and still have many friends in law enforcement. The C.O.P.S. organization is standing by, whenever you need anything, let us know. We're here for you. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
