Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Senior Corrections Officer Wayne Robert Clark

My thoughts are with your loved ones on this first anniversary. This past year for some of your loved ones may have gone by quickly, but for others it must have felt like an eternity since they last saw your smile and heart your voice. They continue to carry you in their hearts and will always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol. You have not been forgotten.

I met Wayne 21 years ago when we were opening Riverfront State Prison. From our first encounter, I knew that I have met the ultimate Law Enforcement Officer. Wayne was, without question, the best dressed officer in our department. Through the years, I would have the privlidge of working a unit or detail with him, but the best years were the past three. I had my morning coffee and pastry with him every morning. We would sit and talk about everything from our first days, motorcycles, classic cars, but most of all, our families. Wayne was finally in love again. He found his soul mate, and he was determined to have a beautiful life with her. Yes, Connie, was that mate. Their love seemed to make Wayne glow.He was truely happy again.
Now that you are gone, know that we, all of your friends, will always look after that love for you. You were a good friend to me, and I shall always cherish the memories of our past. You gave me wisdom and inspiration, and I will always take pride in that, and I will do my best not to let you down. I know that Louis was you brother, and I can only hope I was a close second.
As you were a monument to our Department, you will be forever memorialized at the "Wayne R. Clark" Memorial, at Riverfront State Prison.Your watch is over, and your duties completed. Now it is your time to rest. Wayne, be at piece.
Your friend and comrad,
Robert "Bob" Franklin
Officer, NJDOC, Riverfront State Prison

My heart goes out to Wayne's family, girlfriend Connie and of course, his dear friend Luis. I knew Wayne many years ago and I have not forgotten all he has taught me. By knowing him, I have become a stronger person. He taught me what honor is all about. He also showed me what loving someone is all about. I will never forget him.

I HAVE KNOWN WAYNE CLARK FOR 30 YEARS AND I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE HE IS GONE. THERE IS NOT A DAY THAT GOES BY THAT I DON'T THINK OF HIM. EVEN THOUGH I HADN'T SEEN HIM FOR YEARS, I KNEW HE WOULD ALWAYS BE THERE FOR ME. THAT'S THE KIND OF FRIEND HE WAS. I NEVER MET A MAN MORE DEVOTED TO HIS CHILDREN. THEY CAME BEFORE ANYTHING, EVEN THOUGH HE DROVE THEM CRAZY SOMETIMES. HE WAS VERY STRICT BUT FAIR. HE LOVED ANIMALS ,ESPECIALLY HIS DOG BUBBLES,AND HE WAS VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. AND, OH YES HE LOVED HIS SWEETS, ESPECIALLY ANYTHING CHOCOLATE. HE LOVED PROTECTING THE COMMUNITY WHETHER IT WAS AS A POLICE OR CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AND YOU WOULD BE LUCKY TO HAVE HIM AS A PARTNER. THE SADDEST FEELING FOR ME IS HOW HE DIED. I KNOW HE WAS A GREAT DRIVER AND I NEVER THOUGHT HIS LIFE WOULD BE CUT SO SHORT BY A CAR ACCIDENT. EVEN THOUGH WAYNE IS NOT WITH US HERE ON EARTH, AND I'M SURE HE IS RIDING A MOTORCYLE IN HEAVEN, I LIKE TO THINK HE IS HERE IN SPIRIT. AND DID HE EVER HAVE A GREAT SPIRIT. SO YOU REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND AND I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU BROUGHT INTO MY LIFE. YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.SEE YOU IN HEAVEN.

FRIEND FOREVER

My family was lucky enough to live next door to Wayne for several years. You could not ask for a nicer neighbor. He was a great guy, fun and dedicated. A proud American. It is still a shock to think that he is no longer with us. He is in a better place though and we will never forget him. God Bless.
