One year has passed and I know you have been in the thoughts of your loved ones every hour of every day the past year. Those thoughts will continue on as their broken hearts will never really heal. Keep watch over them and those still out on patrol watching over the thin blue line. You are a true hero and heroes never die, you will never be forgotten.

Darling Husband,

The Holidays are over and by the grace of God your family and I have all made it through them. The 1st anniversary of your death will be here in 2 days, yet to me it seems like yesterday that you left for Heaven. "Time heals all wounds" is not true for me. I don't think it ever will be. You gave me a joy for life that is no longer there. I don't know how to be me without you. To all the Officers who are still amongst us and to all whom have gone before you, God Bless and keep you all. And a special blessings to their wives, husbands and children who every day wait to hear that key in the door, or who know that they no longer will.

Love eternally,

Grace

One week from today will be a year. I just wanted to pay my respects and let you and your family know that even with the passage of time we do not forget a fallen brother.
I feel sorry for people outside the law enforcement family... they do not understand the bond that officers have, I did not know Jim but I will always remember the sacrifice that he made. I hope in some small way that it helps your family knowing that there are so many of your brothers and sisters that remember you, miss you, and thank you.

If you see Tom please tell him hello and we miss him. Chicago Police Department

to the family, friends, fellow officers of officer KNAPP, this note comes to you with sadness at the loss of your loved one. as the holidays approach and the first anniversary of of james's death, it will seem you are still in a fog. that it just didn't happen, as you watch for him to come through the door, think you hear his voice. all the little things he did, to make you laugh or just the silent times you spent together, maybe just sitting at the dinner table, or his receiving a call that he has to go, and grabs a cup of coffee, while runing out the door because he's needed somewhere,to help someone else. my son-in-law sgt. jeffrey t. hewitt, was shot and killed while serving domeestic papers. eow 04-04-04. i know we don't always understand, why the good have to leave us, and the bad are still here. and how i pray for god to watch out for those officer sill out there risking their lives for us. i salute each of you. but i know why th sky is so blue, because when those in blue take their flight, i think a little of that blue is there to remind us where they are now. and i belive when another goes home that those who have gone before are standng right behind jesus saluting another fellow hero. my prayeers are with you, and may the peace only god can give you overshadow each of you every day. god speed officer Knapp. my love comes to your family and friends. carolyn moore--asheville, n.c.

I just have to say when I started in the patrol division back in 1998, I met jimmy who was one of the very few veterans who spoke with this new officer. Jimmy never changed over the years. Jim would help anyone with any questions or concerns. Rest in peace Jimmy you will never be forgotten.

Hello my angel.

Ten months to the day since you were called to Heaven and it's also your birthday. Do they have birthday parties and birthday cakes in Heaven? You always loved both, being with family, and especially those special cakes that your brother gets for birthdays. Mom and Dad, John & Joann, your nephews, and Jimmy and Bobby and I will miss that cake from now on, but we will miss you most, the smile on your face, and the love in heart for us all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY DARLING,

As always, Grace

I still find it hard to believe that Jim is gone. We started our journey at The CCDOC back in 1986. We went to the Academy, and enjoyed Officer Zerbes and his training methods. We also had a lot of good times when were not working. Jim was our class President at the Jail Academy. Even then I knew Jim would be a great Police Officer. He was in fact a great Cop and a great friend. I miss you Brother, and you and Gracie and your boys our in my thoughts and prayers.

You know it is surprising how one reflects on those who have gone home. I knew Jim for most of his career with the Department and remember him from our high school days at Mendel CHS. Through all those years he was the same always with a smile even when his heart was low and he was in pain. Memories are grand to have and cherished for an eternity. You shall always be remembered and with his grace we shall meet again. Take Care and your passage be forever in his light.

Officer Knapp,
Today your wife and many fellow Officers from Cook County and other agencies walked in your name to raise money for a memorial. It was nice. Your Wife is obviously a strong Woman. I met your youngest Son who was proud to wear your Dress Uniform Hat. I spoke to him for 5 seconds and it was so obvious that he is so proud of his Father. God Bless You and Your Family and Thank You.
